We had this cool-looking professor, who was constantly wearing eyeshades. There was a rumour he once tried to use an x-ray diffractometer, the diffractometer didn't seem to work, so he looked inside the collimator with one eye. He didn't understand if it works or not, so he looked with another eye. The x-ray burns didn't leave him blind, but sensitive to bright light. The portal gun is also mentioned to emit either x-rays or gamma radiation (I forgot which).
