Finally finished my Zekrom in the nick of time for Youmacon 2012, after over 2 years of WIP. I'm so glad he was well recieved. I won 1st place Journeyman craftsmanship, and had a blast stomping around detroit in suit. After the masquerade I even rode the People Mover (tram) back to Greektown and busted through Fishbones(fancy restaurant) to get back to my hotel room. LOL! It was so much fun. MUCH thanks to all my entourage who helped me finish my costume 10 minutes before judging. More video and professional pics to come.
Great photo by my friend, at the Renaissance Center in Detroit with Canada across the river.
Costume stats:
Fullbody mascot suit
moving jaw
LED follow-you-eyes and horn tip

minky, and cuddle fleece fabric (very snuggly!)

horn made with hot glue
front zipper
screw on tail
black cording on the legs
Feel free to ask me questions if I missed anything. Commissions are closed until further notice.

Ooooooh freakin YES! I was hoping you'd complete him eventually!
Looks absolutely fantastic- I think one of my favorite things about most all your suits is how you do the feet. I'm really curious to see photos of him at other angles, particularly so we can see the tail and all the glorious LED work (and/or is a video in the works?) Highfives for winning in the competition (and for finishing 10 minutes before the deadline- sounds veeerry familiar to me |DD)
I'm so glad to see someone put so much love and effort into really capturing the character and bringing them alive, your character suits are some of the best around. I cannot wait to see what awesomeness you come up with next! :3

Thank so much! I will definitely be posting more pics of other angles once the photo booth uploads their shots. I reeeeaaalllyyy didn't want to end up so close to deadline, but I severely underestimated the amount of work that needed done ^^; I like making the feet come up to nearly the knees to try to minimize the yucky seem at the ankle, instead having the legs tuck into huge boots. Oh great! That video shows off the costume rather well, thanks for linking :D Glad they dimmed the lights for you too.
You make me want to start working on Shadow Lugia 2.0 now |D
Ugh, story of my life- I can never estimate properly the amount of time I need to get anything done. Really reminds me of Groudon since I also took 2 years to "complete" him (he'll never be considered done really) and did so much last minute work in the hotel room that it's not even funny. Yours honestly looks so much cleaner than Groudon. And I am so trying that high leg foot technique on... something! I'm tired of the ankles always having issues. Does seem to lower your maneuverability a bit, or that could just be the lack of vision onstage?
Just curious, do you have your next costume project picked out yet?

True that! At one point there were four of use crammed around my DTD sewing the wings together the morning of. I think cleanlyness is in the eye of the maker, since I see so many flaws on all the photos of my work and I usually don't see anything wrong with most other people's work, especially Groudon. On stage I was just trying to be big and stompy, I haven't noticed any loss of leg movement or anything, but I might be used to it by now since my past three costumes have had the same feet style. I can still get up and down stairs and escalators fine. Mostly I worried about smacking people with my wings, lol, I must have whacked my handlers a good 20+ times this weekend.
I'm trying to find a less complicated costume to do next. I was going to do Ifrit from FFX but I'd like to do something that isn't full mascot and possibly work on honing my sewing skills. Maybe a character that is a partial, like Armored King or any character from Bloody Roar.

True dat back atcha! Just trust me that Groudon is super flawed and silly with how rushed the fabric job was and I guess I'll trust that yours has plenty of flaws too XD We are forever cursed!!
lol smack that N into submission!
Duuuude Ifrit would be so kickass, dat headgear... and you'd probably benefit from arm extensions. I don't know how recognizable he'd be (I'm not into the FF scene, so maybe it's just me |D) Armored King would be so cool, but without them beefy arms, not sure how well it would read. But you'd get some good armor making practice. I like the character designs of Bloody Roar, most all of them I can see working really well as a suit. Whatever you end up doing, I'm sure you'll be able to pull it off well. I've got SO many ideas, but I think I've chosen my next one- and it'll be my first quad /oh man/

Ya, by the end of day two at least five seems had popped open!
Ifrit is in every FF game as one of the main summons, so he's pretty well known in that fandom. Some of my man friends really want to wear the armor king, so either that or I would be doing lots of muscle padding, since I'm kinda scrawny compared to the character. :D I can't wait to see what your going to make next! I'm looking forward to it.
