I rescanned this. The original was from 2006. Here's what I wrote on Deviant Art:
Ah, there's not much that compares to the heart-warming company of the shrubbles during their annual solstice migration. Some scholars have noted their resemblance to the barbaric ritualistic Christmas tree of a certain dopey bipedal species. The resemblance however, is purely coincidence. The coral-like growths crowning their tops are for status and mating purposes ( unfortunately, the shrubbles' actual mating processes are still a thing of mystery to the shrubbologists for Shrubbles are too modest to put on a show for spectators ). The underside of the shrubble consists of hundreds of small, yet muscular toes formed into a star-like design similar to the sea star. They can skootch over most any terrain with relative ease. Their diet consists primarily of small insects, lizards, berries, the occasional corn chip and/or crisp and apparently, candy-canes . Shrubbles are quite friendly though and enjoy purring and rubbing their soft fir needles on anything that will allow them. Beware! A shrubble has got a mouth full of MIGHTY INCISORS along with advanced skills in coral-crown swordshrubbleship and, although their fur is soft, they can shoot pieces of it with the accuracy of the finest quill-launching kluffaflope so, stay on their good side... which is really quite easy... unless you're a jerk.
Dudley, Ralph, a tamagotchi & Foof are enjoying a pile of shrubbles right now. See?
Bla Bla. Bla.
