Oh no, old Masonic history, is a fave of mine, they were a strong force in the Middle East and Europe at that time, but had problems with the church because they would not allow they to take charge of it , or lend monies to at time which I believe was the Problem with the King of France at that time...
Tha Masons are very modern compared to the Poor Kinights, and yes, although Phillip IV "the beautifull" owed money to the order, it wasn't a big quantity.
As far as my studies have told me my conclusion was that Phillip wanted a big unification of France and just couldn't endure the fact that there was a big army in his lands that didn't followed their orders, in fact, as the Militia Dei (army of God) they only answered to the Pope.
The definitory factor was that the current Pope not only resided in Avignon (France) instead of Rome, but it was a Phillip's puppet so he didn't found any problem to call them heretics. The confessions obtained by torture did the trick.

Maybe, maybe not, I hold the title of Baron of Intra, now a city on the north of Italy, not a big deal now, but then I would have been a feudal lord, still with my luck, I would have ended with a silly arrow hitting me, that getting infected and finally dying due fever ^^U
awww, thanks! hopefully i'll have some more impressive papercuttings soon- trying to get comish and one is turning a real photo into a papercutting, which will be challenging.
