well, another fact I recently remember: both (Mawile and Sableye) live in caves.
I will write what all the pokedex information says about Sableye:

Sableye, The Darkness Pokémon. It digs the ground with sharpened claws to find rocks that it eats. Substances in the eaten rocks crystallize and rise up to its body surface. They lead quiet lives deep inside caverns. They are feared, however, because they are thought to steal the spirits of people when their eyes burn with a sinister glow in the darkness. It digs branching holes in caves using its sharp claws in search of food--raw gems. A SABLEYE lurks in darkness and is seen only rarely. It feeds on gemstone crystals. In darkness, its eyes sparkle with the glitter of jewels.

well, I could say that there wasn't enough info on the pokedex for them
but talking in reality, yes, they were real poket MONSTERS in the beggining, then they were acting more humanly and became less critter-like.
