I used Apophysis 3D Hack and the variations that I used were Linear 3D, Spiral, and Curl 3D.
I also used this version of Apophysis in making Horizon.

I've had pet pythons for nearly 30 years, and this looks so much like snake scales I can't help but wonder if there are underlying commonalities in the math.
