Well, I think we all have moments where we feel like a bit of a derp or that we're not educated on something. Those little insecurities. This is just another thought but I'm starting to think.
Saying stupid things or doing stupid things doesn't make someone dumb. I mean, not by default anyway. No, what really makes people stupid is when they're adamant about being dumb, where they choose to be ignorant. THAT is what makes a moron...
...Maybe.
People might say you're an idiot for asking about something that, maybe, happens to be common knowledge to them. Really though, how would you know otherwise? We can only learn when we see or hear something, we don't just magic knowledge out of nowhere.
It's kinda like having to ask about, say, gravity. If somehow nobody actually taught you even the most basic definition of it, it's not really your fault. However, willful ignorance is what I consider true stupidity.
Otherwise, being dumb about something is possibly the only way to really learn and grow. We only learn about things through, well, not knowing it before.
I kinda rambled off my head for a bit so I dunno if this makes much sense. Anyways, your thoughts?

This is true, very much so. Nothing wrong with not knowing something - we all have that happen. It's just an opportunity to learn something new, that's all. And that should never be held against somebody. True stupidity is exactly what you said - willful ignorance, the unwillingness to bother to learn something you need to learn.
On a side note, I can read your Nidothought in a different way. When I play as my character, Charem, sometimes I just relax my brain a bit. Charem can be kind of naive sometimes, a bit clueless, and that's because I'm 'relaxed' in that fashion. Basically, I can dumb myself down - which sounds bad, but unless something serious is going on, it's completely harmless, and oftentimes even seems rather cute! And it's 'good' in a way too, because sometimes...man, you can overthink, overfret, dwell on too much. Sometimes it's really refreshing just to 'be dumb' for a while, unfocus and give your brain a rest for a bit. At least, it's refreshing for me. <:3

I have found that "idiocy" is based mainly on region. An example of this is, if someone from a southern state didn't know something that is common knowledge to someone from the north, a northern person would call the southern person an idiot for not knowing that. Nobody can know everything, yet many people don't think this is so.
