After flying back to San Diego from Spokane, Marcus Kubiak spent most of the next day working out at his father’s gym, which was mainly for training boxers, shoot fighters, and pro wrestlers, but he wasn’t there for any combat. He mainly focused on the cross-training equipment. He started by climbing up onto the wall-mounted chin-up bar, hooking the bar with the bends on his legs, and performing 30 vertical sit-ups to limber up.

After that, he started batting away at the punch ball to get a rhythm going in his arms and limber them up. There were too many hits to count, but that lasted about 5 minutes. His next exercise was on the punching bag, where he figured he’s try to increase dexterity by only giving it 1, 2 punches. After several of those 1, 2 punches on the bag, his cell phone rang. It was Steve Von Schnauzer.

“Sad news Marcus,” the coach said, “Nightfire did sound interested, but told me that he can’t sign you as the team already has a full roster. Best of luck to ya though!” Marcus then replied, “Okay Steve, I appreciate the update at least. Thank you.” Marcus once again was feeling the agony of rejection, but was able to relieve it quickly by headbutting the bag, breaking the chains above it and sending it to the floor, before moving onto the medicine ball for more exercises.
