Reminds me of a Ravenloft setting campaign...
A 'wandering' domain that consists of a single haunted house; The House of Lament. Its controlled by the fused spirit of the house and that of a woman who was murdered there, and has gone quite mad. Visitors will find themselves trapped until at least one of them dies inside the house. The soul of the dead person is then added to those within its walls to try and soothe the loneliness of the one in charge... which never seems to help.
There's one adventure there specifically in which the famous Doctor Van Helsing finally dies inside the house, but manages to finally appease the spirit within...

"Non-Euclidean geometry often makes appearances in works of Science Fiction and Fantasy. Its usage is most clearly tied with the influence of the 20th century horror fiction writer H. P. Lovecraft. In his works, many unnatural things follow their own unique laws of geometry. This is said to be a profoundly unsettling sight, often to the point of driving those who look upon it insane."
That sounds like Sigil, yes.

well either two things happen next, a meteor crashes in the houses back yard and 7 out of place kids walk up and break in the place to investigate
or
a man or woman in light brown pants and a green top get out of a old taxi and walk up to the attic only to be attacked by zombies and misshaped wearwolfs as they walk to the basement
bonus if you know what each of those are from ;p

As I suspected, I am too out of touch to have heard of your reference.
As for "The Strange High House...", here is a link to an on-line version: http://www.dagonbytes.com/thelibrar.....einthemist.htm . That site seems to have just about all of his stories.

I agree with the others. It reminds me of the 7th guest house (From the computer game of course). But I love it... The twisted aspect of the picture makes the house look very eerie and threatening, as if the very scene itself were trying to break the viewer's sanity. The house itself is appears beckon the viewer to come forth into its torturous interior.
Well done! I'm really impressed by this neat piece of art.

Oh, that's a great book! So hard to find a modern edition though... The one I have is an awful 70s paperback which bizarrely has a giant corn of cob lying in a desert on the front, with American farm buildings in the background, the clearest case of a books cover not representing the contents!
Oh goodness! Yes! That's the only reason I bought it at the time, in an Oxfam bookstore in Oxford... At the time I hadn't heard of Hodgson before (criminal ignorance) but I loved HPL so I thought "Hey, it's a quid, I'll give it a go"... There is literally not a square inch of the cover which does /not/ quote HPL's "Supernatural Horror In Literature"! =D
Good old 7th Guest! That was the first CD-ROM I ever played... Stirred up memories, I couldn't even get past the cake puzzle (I was a kid, I suppose) Damn green graveyard cake! I just watched my family play it, we couldn't get much further than 2/3 of the way through, even pooling our negligible intellects... Great pic!
