It was draft day, the whole Kubiak family had their eyes glued to FSPN, hoping that star forward/center from the Ursa State Majors would find a decent home in the FBA. Like his father Lawrence Kubiak, Marcus had been used to being a champion by constantly training for it.
Standing in his way were bad reviews from 2 prominent FBA analysts: Independent analyst T. Matt Laurens, and FSPN’s Charlie Barker. Their comments angered Lawrence more than they did Marcus, as he tried to stay optimistic.
The clock neared midnight in San Diego and the family kept watching as FBA Commissioner Sterne Davids announced that the last draft pick was Corey Allen. Marcus silently left the living room, sulking as Lawrence cursed and threw a beer bottle at the TV, shouting “Fucking GMs need to listen to their scouts and not the God damn media! The media doesn’t know shit about talent!” Marcus could only facepalm when he saw his father’s behavior.
Marcus spent the next hour in his room, chatting with friends, but too ashamed to get onto any social media sites and tell the public how he really felt. This was until he heard a knock on his door. It was Lawrence, who said to him, “I know this much really suck for you son. I know you tried to follow my footsteps by playing football when you were younger, but I also know that basketball is your true passion. It’s not easy not being wanted.”
Marcus looked to his father and replied, “I thought you were always wanted somewhere, weren’t you?” Lawrence then shook his head and replied, “I have a confession to make son. I didn’t decline playing in the FFL, nobody wanted to draft me because of my injuries from high school. I know exactly how you must feel right now. What you can’t do is take ‘no’ for an answer! Remember that teams in need can still sign you, even with how much of a rat race it may be since you’re up against veterans now in the free agency pool. There is still hope that you might find a career yet!”
Marcus replied, “I hope so dad, as much as I respect you and what you’ve done your whole life, I don’t think I can rely on pro wrestling like you did after college football.” Lawrence finally smiled to his son, saying “Honestly, I hope you don’t have to son, I took more abuse in that wrestling ring than I did on the football field. I’m sure whether someone signs you or not, something will work out for you.” Marcus then replied, “I hope so dad. I just find it hard to believe that they’d overlook a 2-time 1st team All-American who’s seen 3 Furry Fours including a National Championship while in college!”

Author's note: I don't like to be a sore loser, but when you spend countless time and effort on trying to get players drafted into the FBA, only to fail epically for 2 years in a row with NONE of your players getting picked, it makes you feel quite humiliated. I'm not pointing claws or trying to bitch, I'm just saying.

Or at least humor me into thinking that all the time and effort I've spent generating draft candidates in the last 2 seasons will be worth it without having to wait another year. These last 2 draft shutouts have pretty much made me feel like a geek being left out of a bully club.
I went back over your character sheet, and I stand by what I wrote for your character. The fact is, you wrote very little about your character, and what you did write was only about his family and the fact he played both football and basketball in high school-- which makes no sense since football and basketball seasons overlap each other. You also rated him with a 9 strength even though I said you couldn't rate a rookie higher than an 8 in any category, and you told me nothing about the way he plays. Given how little you gave me about this character, I don't believe you worked that hard in making him, and I think I was right in describing him as only having a big powerful body and not much else. You didn't give me anything else to say about him.
Well, his attributes pretty much worked for Shaq when he was drafted 3rd overall. He never made varsity in football and only played it his junior high and freshman years. I don't know how long the regular season runs for California HS football, but where I live, the regular season goes until the end of October.
I do wish I had the time for a better write-up then, but had to do it from a library comp with a time limit. (Was w/o a laptop from Feb.-last week)

Baseball is always a summer sport. You can't play baseball in the winter, or you'd be rained out every game. If you had written that Koob played baseball and basketball, that would have made perfect sense. But football is a winter sport just like basketball is. And you're wrong. You wrote in your bio for the character "In High School, he played varsity in both football and basketball," so you can't tell me now that he didn't play varsity in football. This is what you wrote, and I have it printed down.
And even beyond that, I specifically said no rookie can have a rating higher than 8, but you ignored that. And Shaq wasn't picked up 3rd overall, he was picked 1st overall by the Magic in 1992. Yes, he was a huge, very strong player coming into the NBA, which is why if you had put down an 8 for strength, I wouldn't have batted an eye, but instead you broke with the rule I put right in front of you and put up a 9. And I still allowed Koob into the draft pool.
And finally, you still gave me nothing as far as what his game is like. All I know is that he played football and he was part of an FCAA championship team, but you don't even tell me if he was starting for that team or a bench player or what he contributed to that victory. All I know is that he won a championship with the University of West Burlington, but then for some reason transferred AFTER his victory to Ursa State University, which makes it sound like he must have been a scrub on the team. I have no clue why a truly dominant college player would ditch his school AFTER winning a championship. And the thing is, you DON'T explain it. You wrote this incredible event into his history that is just begging for explanation, that could reveal some amazing story about his background or his character but instead, you leave it all hanging out there for me to just scratch my head and wonder.
So for you to come onto FA and howl about how you worked SO hard on this character is an insult to all the creative furries who have written interesting, thoughtful, fascinating characters with deep personal backgrounds, with very particular styles of play, and rich histories that really expand the FBA. Instead, you give me a guy who miraculously played two sports at varsity level at the same time, who is so ridiculously strong, he's stronger than any rookie ever, and after winning it all in college and getting his school an NCAA Championship LEAVES them... without ever explaining why he did that.
You want a character to be picked up in the FBA? Real simple.
DO BETTER.

Well, hopefully these stories can help him at least get more noticed. As for the stat point at 9, I admit error on my part and you're welcome to drop it down to 8 if you wish, to make things more fair. Part 2 of my story is mostly taking some of your advice, though it crosses over with my new coaching gig. Part 3 was based on Nightfire's response mostly, but I also eventually wanted to write in a scene of him working out at his father's gym, so that killed 2 birds with 1 stone there.
From what l read from buck's post, sounds like you didn't provide any detail about his game, you do know what he's asking for right?
Basically what he's good or bad at in the low post, does he have a good hook shot? Does he have a good turn around jump shot? Does he handle double teams well? Is he good at passing from the post? Is he quick or slow when he performs his moves?
If your draft candidates don't have details about their games (basketball skills) then they will never get picked because GM's won't know what they are getting.
If strength was the only thing you would need to dominate, then Shaq would have been dominating his entire career, but that was not the case in the last years, sure he was still strong, but he lost his quickness in the post, now that his moves are slower, the defensive matchup can contest all his shots.
I don't know how familiar you are with the details in basketball, but you gotta know some details about certain positions, and what skills they require, hope this helps.
