I wasn't really sure how to discuss this one,
I watched "Beyond the Black Rainbow" 2 days ago, and this thing
absolutely blew me away, baby was over at her grandmothers,
girlfriend was in bed, it was just me and this little moment,
I can't say this is a great movie, but I won't say it's a bad movie,
it's just something to check out. I don't really think it's the type of
movie for just anyone but if you want to sit down to some modern
and very creative visuals give it a try.
if I had to give it a description, try to think of a Kubrick movie,
at least as far as the pacing and visuals go.
anywho,
just wanted to share my little moment with you all.
hope you enjoy

Yeah. I'll end up watching that Movie some day. None the less Samus is still one of my favorite characters. I know at the end of the game if you collected enough items the fact she was a girl was reviled at the end of the game. (I think they did that in Metroid as well as Super Metroid [aka Metroid II]) Anyway I love the Metroid Franchise. Though the older versions of any game are always better then the remakes due to the not knowing what to expect. Then the new one comes out and you know it should be like this... then you have less to look forward to usually.
the thing that sucks about the new Metroids is really that they almost completely have no idea what to do with the fact that Samus is a woman
they want to write a character, as a strong woman, when she was always a strong character; who just happened to be a woman.
if that makes any sense lol

it makes perfect sense,
hell the first game never even drew attention to her gender,
and in the actual story in the manual it refers to samus as "he"
http://www.metroid-database.com/m1/m1_manual.pdf
it also mentions that "he" is a "cyborg" yea, not a very well constructed
story, but for the time I always like to think that, this is the lie she told
to cover up an even more mysterious past. Which makes it way cooler.
"if you think megamans box art was bad, check out samus origin story"

see, I don't mind the idea of Samus starting off a fragile kid, who becomes a badass. Hell, that's how badasses are usually made lol
BUT, the total incompetence of how it was done in the Other M was insulting. You cannot regress a character in order to give them their original persona, and you should never; EVER, just tie their entire motivation for a brand new character. In this case; Adam, who is referred to in the GBA games, became a GIANT drain on Samus' character. So not only was she now a gentle flower who froze up every time Ridlely showed his face (whom she has fought countless times before), but now she is shackled to a man we could not even care about. Because, hey; all women do outside being scared is fawn over men that treat them like shit. . . right?

which is why I think she lies to everyone and tells them she is a man,
kinda gives her a bit of authority and respect,
and god, the whole Adam bit... I didn't mind her bringing him up in the gameboy
because, its just some random thoughts being tossed around for a mood setting.
thats what I got out of that character originally.

basically, the Other M is a really bad rip-off of the manga adaptation for Metroid.
In that series, she is a kid when she's pretty weak and helpless, but matures into the badass that she is in the games.
In the Other M, they decided to retcon her badass personality, in order to shoehorn in "development" of her character, by making her a scared little girl. . . who is like, 30 years of age.
In other words, two examples of writing; one is a character study; in which we watch the growth of Samus, the other is some hack who couldn't write a female- no; ANY character to save his life.
It's like what they did with the Parasite Eve protagonist in the 3rd Birthday.

that is a great comparison, I played 3rd birthday and couldn't get that other M samus
out of my mind.
however, another reason I didn't like other M is every metroid,
including metroid 3/super metroid lived up to a small comic done for
nintendo power magazine where samus was an orphan baby that
the chozos had raised, giving her the suit and showing her how to
be like they are.
and this thing tried to be a sequel to the thing that already had a
good back story, without addressing the back story...
even the prime series tried to at least brush
a little bit of info about it.
but why make a sequel that doesn't really make any sense,
its a huge "fuck you" to fans.

yea, he was one of the late 80s magnetos,
the one with the little cloth cape and removable helmet,
he also has little magnets in his hands.
I still have him.
and no, sky-lynx was always one of my favs.
although I my mom gotten rid of him years ago when i started getting
older, she was always bad to get rid of things,
anywho,
my girlfriend a few Christmases back actually got me the Japanese
re-issue of him... and its just as cool as I remember.

eh, not really, that face comes up when you google the movie,
I'm surprised its not on the cover of the box.
and as for spoilers....WOW... there is no way in hell you could spoil this movie...
I mean... you have to see it to understand what I mean, It's almost like trying
to describe a dream I think would be a good analogy.

Ermm.. I know it's late to comment on this art , ummm.. I was quiet busy -_-
I know the feeling you have there , I feel this too , with old movies of the 90s , also it seemed I always liked or enjoyed playing PS1 games more than modern games , when I was playing a PS1 game on my PC I came to a sence where the backgroud of the level is all black , because of it's weak hardware they don't design backgorunds , insted they leave it black or shadow , giving you the isloated feeling , at that moment , I relized it , unexpainable but nice feeling. Which most of modren titles miss , like you said.
I rather to spend those times alone as well. That way you get to amdire every second.
I feel stupid :( but had to share it.
Btw , you looks cute as a kid.

eh, some of my pictures I like and others I don't, lol.
and as for games, I'll still discover new NES games till
this day that are so impacting and memorable that it
doesn't make much since as to how they never became
bigger then what they were, imagination was just so drastically
weird and fun back then, there are good ideas now...but still
a plumber who eats mushrooms and flowers, gets sucked down a
drain pipe into a world of crazy filled with "goombas" and "koopas"
and has to find his way to a red brick layed castle to fight a dragon
that has a turtle shell to save a princess....only to find out there is
only more mushrooms. I miss that level of crazy originality, when you
hear it, its insane,
but as Willy Wonka stated "a little nonsense relishes
even the wisest of men."

So true , haha old days insane ideas , but always brilliant , I think that's why they do remake old games. Me too I keep trying new nes, gensis , snes.. games , it is sad alot of cool games went unoticed. I agree , the way you said it about mario looks stupidly insane idea lol ,idk how did they accepted it, but who would know , it became one of world famous game , creator probably would be kicked if it for these days.
Oh I think turtle dragon is Kappa modified ,a Japaness silly myth creature.
Weird how the conversation twisted in to so many topics , I guess that how it turns out when you find someone shares with you the same thoughts xD lol.
