sixthleafclover has been on my wish list a long time. And it seemed to take almost as long to pick a concept for her to draw, and when my turn came up, I still hadn't decided truly. However, we were able to work together, tossing ideas back and forth, sketches (well, she sketched, I commented ;)), and finally landed on this vision. SixthLeafClover brought it to life, as she is so very good at!

The other sketches of hers were all wonderful pieces, but they featured Rooth so prominently, at the expense of landscape. I really liked this pose, but I asked SLC to back the camera out a bit, widen the angle, and include more of the scene. Rooth is immense here, 'tis true, as he is in his spiritland and blissfully happy for it. But if you've ever seen such landscape from the air, you realize just how vast and amazing it really is. For all its beauty and immensity, I felt it had to take at least an equal role in this piece. And so it has. :)

If you look closely, you'll see Aram has a wide-angle camera of some sort, taking pictures of the Rooth in his element. Xinnamon is nearby, regarding Rooth almost wistfully, no doubt charmed by how his spirit-land responds to him, much as her own Pandora responds to her, through Eywa. I bet she wonders what Rooth's planet-mother is called.

I cannot begin to explain how pleased I am with this piece. Rooth's form is incredible--just the right combination of strength and grace, and wow, look at that hair--the lighting is great, and the composition is just what I wanted. A bit unorthodox, perhaps, but gawd, look at it .. it could be a great book cover!

And to make matters more awesome, it was done at a resolution good enough for a 3-foot wide print! O_O It will dominate whatever wall I place it on, that's for sure! I also got some smaller prints. sixthleafclover has some pretty good print options and prices.

One of the things I'm most impressed with is that SLC gives full rights to her works. Yes, she's pretty expensive, but that feature makes her commissions even more attractive than her talent would otherwise command. I'll be sure to commission her again! In fact, there should be a 'sketch' or three in the works after this. I got some ideas. ^_^
