It's been... Two years since I've worked on this story. Two blinkin' years of writer's block. Two years of wanting Gene to have a meeting with the leader of the New City Party, but I just couldn't get into Danziar Velmar's head. Finally, I gave up on the scene and had Gene meet up with Lord Kosgan instead.
I'm adding a touch to the Catlowverse here: The nation of Devona (on the other side of the world). Hopefully Their Felinities are fine with that.
Also, I hope Mr. Temple is okay with Gene getting trounced by Lord Kosgan at Emperors' Thrones--it's sort of like me getting trounced by, say, Gary Kasparov at chess. The idea I'd had is that Mr. Catlow had played Emperor's Thrones once before, at a programming convention or the like, while Lord Kosgan has been playing it since childhood.
Another thing is, yes, Lord Kosgan does sound paranoid--but he does have his reasons.

What did you think of it? I hope you don't mind me writing Gene as getting clobbered by Lord Kosgan at Emperors' Thrones--what I had in mind was that Gene had played a game or two of Lesser Court at a programming demonstration; Lord Kosgan has been playing all his life: Lesser, Greater, Uneven, and Full.
