Awesome? Suicidal! That plane was a disaster waiting to happen, and too often you didn't have to wait long! I saw a Komet once in a museum in Ontario CA. Took a picture too. I think it's in a folder to upload to FA eventually.

And, if you can draw that little thing sitting on a sled, and can do the "rocket flaring" right, you'd be one hell of an artist. Moreso than now.

I don't know if I have a photo or illustration of the Komet's craddle to draw from. I'm pretty sure I don't have a photo of it in flight, let alone taking off. But I'd have to check some books of John Batchelor illustrations to be sure.

Just remember the propeller on the front, as tiny as it may be, and the fact that the whole thinge looks like a stub of a kite.

Maybe the pilot is Miyamoto Usagi, from the comic Usagi Yojimbo, challenging our heroine to a dogfight. :)

Rocky did have an arch-nemesis in the Imperial Japanese Naval Airforce pilot Mizusako Usagi, who flew a Ki84 Hiyate with rabbit ears painted on the cowl. Steve Galaccie was amused enough to build a small model kit of the plane, and paint it with rabbit ears the same way I ilustrated it. He did a painting too, that was available as a print for a while. I wish I knew if Stan Sakai was that taken with it, though one doubts it. *My* Usagi wasn't a medieval samurai

The P-47, a larger plane with more powerful engine, carried 8 .50 cals, but the P-51 was armed with "only" six. It seemed to be enough. After all, it's where you put the lead that matters, not how much goes whistling by his canopy or engine cowl.

But that's the gag... that Rocky was *not* a guy. (Remember, June Foray did the voice of the animated Rocky.)

He actually was male. I know June did it, it was just supposed to sound like a little boy's voice.

Unless you mean something else when you said "that's the gag"..........I'm sorry if I'm being annoying, it's just that Rocky and Bullwinkle's one of my favorite shows and I get really nitpicky about it. I still REALLY like this drawing, though.

Well, of course Rocky was officially a guy. You can't have guys and gals mixing it up in a children's cartoon show, can we? It might suggest improper things to the little rug rats. Unlike two guys with a close buddy-buddy relationship. Nothing could be unhealthy about that, now is there? Hey, wait, what are those two guys doing... ? Holy smoke, Bullwinkle, are you just glad to see me or do you have a rabbit in there?
