Steampunk <3 See, that right there...you are exactly right in saying that :) I could never do cyberpunk; i don't like the aesthetic. Dieslepunk maybe, but it comes off as too...dystopian? Steampunk for me conjures up images of fantastic contraptions, good ol' British sensibility, grand sweeping adventures, and to say the least, I personally find it very pleasing to read about and look at. You may have noticed how on one of the earlier pages of the comic, the time-and-space display was more of a computer display...Alice and I rectified THAT right quick.
I do get the idea of that, a very creative system using a system of gears and mechanics, instead of switches, diodes, conduits, etc. It would be all independent systems, accept for electricity and be like an evolution beyond the industrial revolution that swept America and Europe. I think of the movie called 9 done by Tim Burton and such.
