Actually it was so you could hold it in your mouth and spit it out after a while without it being too disgusting. It was a stage prop (les miserables, we needed someone to get shot and spit up blood later on) but of course it wasn't actually syrup and contained tons of non-edible ingredients. Soooooo yeah. Hahaha
