Top 24 Draft Report - written by T. Matt Latrans
Todd Hu (Eastern Dragon, C) "Hu Dat?" "Huge Freakin' Dragon"
Height: 8' 0" / 244 cm - Weight: 385 lbs.
From Oakland, California
Projected: Pick 10
Drafted: Pick 8 (Huntsville Mayors)
BIO: The second of two eight-footers, it's obvious why Hu is on this list. It's almost comical how much he dominated the court in high school, being able to score over shorter players with ease. And his defense was overpowering, blocking shots and pulling down rebounds almost effortlessly. Naturally, as the players against him improved, his stats have gone down, favoring him more as a defensive presence than an offensive one. But questions remain about how he'll fare against the best ballers in the world. Height is always an advantage in basketball, but with his quiet, humble personality, he may lack the determination and focus to be effective against the league's most aggressive players. More important will be whether he can adopt the FBA's role for a center-- his dreadful passing ability will have to improve for him to fill the role properly in this league, though his outstanding blocking and rebounding may make up for the fact that plays can't go through him but end with him. A lot of questions about this towering dragon, but also a lot of potential.
PROS: Ridiculous height, good weight-to-height ratio for some speed inside, outstanding blocker and rebounder
CONS: Dreadful passing ability, gentle personality with zero leadership, could have trouble at the pro level
SIMILAR TO: Mark Ferramin (Ferret, C, ALK)
Hope Hu Dat enjoys his new home. ^^
