The ones that run off of live steam, yes they are very expensive. However there are gasoline/hydralic (lawnmower) drive engines or battery electrics that are much more affordable. My battery engine that I use was available ready to run for $1600 when I bought it.

$1600, thats amazing considering the $1200 price Ive seen on some HO scale Big Boys. I'm not much of a model railroader anymore but these things still bring joy to me. Thanks for the response.

Thats why I got into the live steam hobby. Model railroadings gotten so damn expensive that the ride on models have become cheaper in the long run.
