Improvise!!!
2 months trying to get WHITE PAINT, nothing strange, without results. So i had to use my acrylics, unique option available. As i don´t have light grey, i used "rain grey", with very acceptable results. Still must make a dorsal fairing for the radiocompass DF203, principal external caracteristic of the A-4Q, and if possible, the mini antenna of the VLF Omega navigator. And must build a MER for 3 Mk 82 Snakeye bombs of the 4 that i have XD
This planes was VERY actives against Chilean reconnaissance planes, even intercepting from very few mts CASAs C212 of the Chilean Navy in 1978. being armed for that with AIM-9B Sidewinders. The A-4Qs was operating from the Carrier "25 de Mayo". The war menace was mega close but fortunatly our stupid dictators used their small brains to evite it. And the pope definitly influenced in that....
BUT THEN!!!!
when the war started in 1982 after the argentine recovery of the Malvinas Islands (Falklands if you are british >=3 ), the remaining A-4Qs was in very bad conditions XP
Operative planes at the start of 1982: supposed 11, but just 3 didn´t had cracks in the wings. Ejecting seats with vanquished rockets, etc etc. Even the 3era Escuadrilla Aeronaval de Caza y Ataque was on ground between march 11 and 16th, by urgent neccesary reparations in some of its planes.
Altought that, 3 planes was board into the carrier ARA 25 de Mayo when Argentina recovered the Malvinas at april 2th 1982. But during great part of the war the Escuadrilla had just 2 planes in flight conditions
A short resume of the lost planes in the war (all them in pathetic conditions, as i sayd, altought the inmense efforts of the mechanics of the Argentine Navy):
3-A-306: returned from a mission with the complete snakeye charge by a electric failure in the MER, tried to land with crossed wind and ice on the airfield, but the nose wheel exploded and the plane went outside the road, broking the nose landing gear too. Cap. Zubizarreta tried to eject but died
3-A-307: shooted down by Sea Harrier XZ457, pilot Lt. Clive Morrell. Pilot Cap. Phillipi Ejected
3-A-312: heavily damaged by 30mm bullets from a Sea Harrier ( Lt Clive Morrell again) , incluing lost of the right landing wheel, had to be abandoned by the Lt. Arca, and was destroyed by the AAA of the Argentine Army because the plane refused hit the ground and continued flying by several minutes. Pilot saved by http://www.furaffinity.net/view/8175274/ ! xD
3-A-314: shooted down may 21th over San Carlos narrow (i can´t find why, i suppose a frigate), pilot G. Márquez dead
Differences between A-4B to A-4Q:
Powerfull engines Wright J65 Dash 20
Spoilers in the wings
Collins electronics pack, similar to A-4F ones
(modifications tooks 9 MONTHS by plane)
total numer: 16 + 8 as spares
The Argentine navy had 3 sargeant Fletcher refueling packs to use, but no one was operative when the war against the UK started in 1982. Recon Pods VICON 18 too
My plane will be...
3-A-305:
Built as A4D-2 BuAer 144929 , transformed to A-4Q. Arrived to Argentina may 2th 1972 as 3-A-205. Rematriculated as 3-A-305 , had an air collition 30th april 1974, light damage. With the Lt. Was equipped with the VLF Omega navigator, being one of the VERY few A-4Qs ables to do long navigation over the sea, incredibly important when the war against the United Kingdom in the Malvinas Islands started in May 1982. Lecour attacked and sunk the HMS Ardent in May 21th 1982, suffering light damaged by splinters, repaired. Lost 22 May 1986 close to the Base Aeronaval Comandante Espora, by lack of power during flight, pilot ejected
