From my ShinSonic Series, which is a combination of all continuities, as of story 29 - Chris gets turned into a Mobian Hedgehog. Thus he can be and is adopted into Sonic's Family. They do this since his own family was murdered (in story 2), except for his Uncle who despises him and his Grandfather who's absentminded (as they find out in story 24).

As a special power, he can phase through things and even distort reality for a short time, which usually manifests itself into invisible walls or platforms that he uses to traverse various places. Like his adopted Big Brother Sonic, he's a speed type.
