Hmm. I wonder if a five-week or greater timeskip might make a bit more sense (basic combat training for infantry takes ten weeks...and that's before the second round of training and specialization which takes nearly five months.) That would be long enough for the rest of the party to take care of far-flung errands (one word: Sidequest!) and for the training's effects to become noticeable...
