The dorsal fin's mounting position.. totally ruins the lines of the car. It looks highly misplaced.



Now, why not mount the son of a bitch to a roll bar in the middle of the car? It would make more cosmetic sense, first of all, and secondly.. you'd have added protection to yourself, since you've got a convertable.

Yeah, I know, convertable. Easy fix. It's called a locking hinge that way you can fold the fin up and down at your leiser. If you want to get all fancy you can make it a two way so it folds flat against the roof, to keep it out of the way. Not hard to engineer at all, and if you're getting a custom paintjob anyways, odds are the shop can figure out how to make something like that work out too.

This is actually how I always envisioned it, lope just put it all together from my really chitty explanations. I'm quite happy with the dorsal being where it is though I do appreciate the input!

Thought I'd give you an update, I am having one of those 'light bars' put it. Its sorta not really a roll bar, ya know? ALL cosmetic modx to be complete mid-May to early June.

Yep. I'm just looking for a competent body shop that FULLY understands English and has dealt with cosmetic surgery before.

It looks like a very nice and interesting design.

We'll see how the actual paint happens. I'm going to talk to J&B paint about it this week.

Thanks, perhaps you may see it at FC in 9 months from now. I just need the hotel to find me a room. I still think some dork has about 50 rooms under his/her name to create this panic, then as long as he cancels them within 24hours notice, they won't put down a fine. If this paranoid crap holds true, I hope he/she gets banned from the con PERM. See what happens when I get board? I start thinking stuff up. lol

No plans on that yet, but the Ford Performance Team got back to me today. Current "surgery" to it will be $10,300. Whipple 700 supercharger, predator modx, dyno/tuning, lightbar, ect...

Paint comes later. :D

only problem I can see, as a license car inspector, the dorsal fin's location. That'd never pass inspection due to it be mounted on the windshield. Plus the amount of wind noise you'd get.

Might be able to modify the hood with a cowl to simulate a fin near the wind shield, but there's unfortunatly laws about how high one can go, & it would need to be detachible for the hood to open.

Someone here suggested mounting a fin to the convertible top, which I've done for a customer in the past. It bolts to the front & middle support, & passes inspection. Your drawing of a fin is too narrow, & would snap the mounting bolts off the second you hit 75mph. It's a mustang, & you will hit 75mph, been there, done that ;) I'll call the guy I did the fins for, & see if I can get some photos. (we made his into a dolphin, but the ideas the same)

I understand your point and we actually thought of that. Currently we are going to have it REMOVEABLE for travel at higher speeds. I for one, am worried it may shift the car while at highway / interstate speed.

yes. I examined the picture closely. The bridge hasn't the upper strength to support it, plus a hole up there would fail the inspection. Stupid inspection rules. I've wanted to put a mane on my Zebra car for ages, but due to inspection laws, I cannot.

I wouldn't worry about the media either. I've had a zebra car for about 3 years now, & there's been no mention of it ANYWHERE, but on sites like these, where I've actually sent in a pic or two.

Where you live? There may be a slight difference between US and Canada if you are American. All I know is that I can get away with it here in Canada.

about 12 miles south of the canadian border, in Vermont. The guy I designed the dolphin car for lives in canada as well tho.

Yea, still need to get the dimensions drawn up so they can start to MAKE it. Dorsal too, but I'm waiting on ICBC to tell me how high I'm allowed to have it.
