Last Page completed by me - in which MJ makes a feminist joke (cause I'm a total feminist. It's true.)
Anywho, there are supposed to be like...10 more pages. But I had to bow out of the project *sniff sniff* :depressed:
If you think you'd like to continue or do your own take on this project then PM me and I can send you the original script that KingDu02 completed. Which...didn't include MJ. Weird, huh? But in my take it would have been...awesome.
Aw well, onward and upward.
And that waiter seriously is too cute. He needs his own comic where he gets slutted out like OMG ---

It would have built up into something epic.
But it'd be hard to explain because it draws from two comics or rather it would have woven together two other stories. One was the canon "Poor Spidey" series by KingDu02 himself and the other would have been another story by someone else where Spider-man was saved post "Poor Spidey" (Poor Spidey is canon and the other comic was not. Rhino Horn would have made the other one canon)
And...and...it would have just been a very satisfying read. I had it all planned in the ole noggin (my mental script deviates a bit from the original script) but I had to drop it. But take nothing for granted in the first page. There's a reason for Hulk, a reason for MJ, a reason for the construction site...everything kind of flowed together and KingDu02 has been pretty excited about the re-write after I explained it to him but...yeah.
Yeah.

Yeah.
Not at all, except it'd be less apparent without the rest of the comic to see it...in...But the first 4 pages, I believe, establish one of the major themes of this comic that I wanted to dig up from the original script - unfulfilled desires.
Peter wants to get to MJ, Hulk wants to...vent his anger (and he wants his punching bag back), MJ wants her husband, and Rhino...Rhino is rather "in love" with Spider-man. That's an even MORE cthonic note in this piece that I HAD to deal with. The original script portrays a Rhino who is outwardly a rapist and bully. Nonetheless, it also hinted (rather heavily) that Rhino may actually be overjoyed that Spider-man is there. Because he strongly desires this guy and I think he wants Spider-man to want him in return. But that isn't going to happen, and Rhino clumsily deals with his feelings of desire like a child on a playground who hits their object of affection when they want to do the exact opposite. Relook at those panels- Rhino is almost totally playful until Spider-man gets violent. Look at the last scene with those two. Is that man willing to do evil to another or a man contemplating, and perhaps rueing, the fact that his paramour will never reciprocate (but he's not giving up)
To look for the greatest symbolism thus far you have to check out the fourth page. That page is NOT in the original script, in fact MJ isn't in the original script at ALL. That page would have come to fruition later but in the place it holds it parallels whatever Spider-man is going through.
Even the symbols work out like crazy. The idea of a horn being phallic or a symbol of masculinity - The name of the restaurant is the name for a Chinese Unicorn, you can see a unicorn on the wall scroll, the crane (in the painting) has a beak that resembles a long horn, and the actual aphrodisiac is named "Rhino Horn". You see the inelegant, and perhaps violent when taken by itself, symbol of a horn married to very elegant ideas. mystical creatures, graceful birds, the continuation of life and togetherness. This goes back to Rhino himself and me trying to hint at his...desires (since I couldn't actually have him voice his true feelings. KingDuo02 acknowledges that he saw it but him expressing it wouldn't work if we were to use the original script). MJ is surrounded by all that when she wants to get to her husband (while here husband is dominated by Rhino's "Horn" or sexual desire and wants to get back to MJ). She on a date waiting for her husband, while Rhino is on a "date" waiting for Spider-man to return his feelings (neither will get what they want).
Even MJ's dress reflects the comic as a whole. The green signifies growth and having it tied at the throat (near the throat chakra, which is the chakra of communication and self expression) alerts us to the fact that she will grow as an individual during this comic. What holds her back from trusting her intuition is her black and white dress. Black and white are "absolute" colors - rigid thinking. She thinks that her husband doesn't need her worrying about him and that he can handle himself (because superheroes can handle anything, right? Isn't that what we're told and taught?). Just as Spider-man finds it hard to see what Rhino is going through because Rhino is a Villain - Black. Evil. Chaotic.
The difference would be the Mary Jane eventually trusts her intuition with the signs all around her, while Spider-man would not. What's interesting here though is that when faced with adversity Spider-man answer it with humor (just as MJ did with the waiter and being approached as someone who must be viewed as a "wife" rather than as a person) and he wasn't able to do that in the "Poor Spidey" comics. So he's had some personal growth as well.
It's all very complex, and I do feel a bit bad because, like I said, I was consuming the original script in "Jubell-ness" and that wasn't a nice thing to do (Even if KingDu02 liked me doing so). But that isn't the reason I dropped out, of course.

Oh wow, and here I'd only caught onto the desires aspect and the phallic objects. ( Though I took those to mean MJ could still be completely in control despite being in a land of dicks, man eater that she can portray herself to be)
And that's why I love your art. Not only does the subject matter often tickle my fancy (and your work on expressions, tight outfits and especially butts is positively stellar) but you manage to cram in super interesting symbolism as well. <3

It makes me IMMENSELY happy to have someone say that.
I like being thoughtful with the work I do (even when I'm not cognizant of it), and it nice that there are people out there who like to understand things. I mean, it's cool to "shoot" and ask questions later but many people would rather not ask questions at all ^^;
And I'm glad you got the other symbols, but your interpretation actually isn't far off at all. You're actually spot on. The colors on her dress have a bit of symbolism but there's a reason I went for polka-dots over stripes or zig-zaggs or what-have-you. Circles are self-contained independent shapes. Controlled. Which echoes to the lanterns that hang over the tables. Those are MJ. Able to hold her own, do her own thing, but still contribute when she's in the right place.
You have a good eye!

That was one of the magical moments where we suspend belief in erotica. I didn't think about ...until after the initial characters were established that Rhino's suit can't really be destroyed...and he doesn't really take it off...but that peens got to come out eventually (it totally made me wonder how he uses the bathroom)
So I just decided that his package is so huge that even having a semi-hardon is leading to things violence and super science can't handle. Oh virility.

Sirio, an artist I respect, worked with the other person I was working with to finish it off. You can see it on Y!gallery.
It's not based off of where I was going with the script (the ending is entirely different as is how it continues) but it is
a continuation you can take a look at.
