These are some styles of handguns in the Bravo Strike universe. Yes there are handheld energy weapons in this world, but for many, especially on earth, they still count on little sold objects crashing into targets at high speeds for their personal concealable protection.

The 6.5mm High-Velocity Caseless one is probably my favorite one here, Baron deer.
Hrmm... I wonder if you've looked into electrothermal systems, where a short-pulse charge converts a liquid propellant medium (water, ammonia, etc.) to a near-plasma state to maximize the propulsive force of the medium. One could use (if such is available) explosively-compressed room-temperature superconductor to get the pulse, where the explosive would be only a minor contribution to the actual propulsive yield. I would think something like this used best in large SMG and rifles, usually tossing a penetrator as an anti-armor projectile...
Yes, dear, perhaps TOO complicated, but technically feasible.
Lovely design, dear heart, as always.

Oh ho! You've heard of Electro-Thermal Breech to! Yes there are ETB's in the Bravo Strike Universe; in fact most of the handweapons and light crew served weapons used by the Marine Expeditionary force to FDB3 use ETB technology. The thing I real love about them is that theoritical you can switch between ETB cartridges and traditional propellant by just switching bolt or breech in the weapon.
In the early ninties I work over by FMC in San Jose CA. At the time I did not realize it but they were conducting some tests on the theory of ETB weapons there along with some very early rail gun proof-of-concept stuff.

I, dear, am a fan of high-tech armaments, and yes ETB / ETE (electrothermal Enhancement) has seen some play in my games and ideas. It has also been seen in (to date as far as I know) one gaming system, and that is R. Talsorian Games' Cyberpunk 2020 game.
And yes, the breech/bolt-switching is an option, as is the use of the explosively-initiated charge being inside the cartridge, thus requiring no changes to the gun itself.
Glad to see I got your attention! Love the art!
