I think you mean Blood Omen 2. It wasn't related much to anything in the story and the people that played it hardly seemed to have played the first Blood Omen even.
Because the first Blood Omen had tons to do with the other games, even if it was a different format and kind of different from the later games.
Part of me thinks the only reason Hylden were in Defiance was because the makers wanted to make Blood Omen 2 look like it tied in at all!

blood omen was a game created by silicon knights , they sold the rights of the blood omen unverse to the crystal dynamics/eidos
