Here's another Halloween drawing for spooky fun. Most likely you can figure out what it's a reference to. This is also to say happy birthday to
, who is my co-star in this scene. I was thinking, "Hmm, I need another pink babyfur bunny who can wear a dress," and Jasmine was the first girl I thought of! (She is a girl she is she is! I know 'cause she wears dresses!) Happy birthday to
, and happy Halloween to everybody!
I actually tried to recreate the wallpaper pattern from the movie, but it came out smaller than I would have wanted. Oh well. It was fun applying it to all the planes of the walls. I used GIMP to make the wallpaper pattern and the overall background shading gradient. Everything else was in Sai.

Well first you have to be a ghost ... :O
The real rules for Ghost in the Graveyard are:
1. Must be played at night or you're doing it wrong!
2. Choose the boundaries and the base
3. Choose which players are going to be the starting "ghosts" -- one ghost for every six other players works
4. Ghosts start at base and count to 100; everybody else hides
5. The seeking starts; ghosts try to find and tag the other players, who try to get to base
6. Any non-ghost who gets to base is safe; if a ghost tags somebody, they're out
7. If the ghosts tag as many players as there are ghosts, the ghosts win; if everybody else makes it to base before this happens, the non-ghosts win
8. If the ghosts won, the players tagged are the ghosts for the next round; if not, choose ghosts for the next round some other way
Play until bedtime :)

It's hard to say what my favorite anything is -- I will say, though, that "The Ring" (2001; I haven't seen the Japanese original "Ringu") reeeeally creeped me out. Of course nowadays people probably watch it and say, "What's a videotape?" XD The sequel isn't that great.
"The Sentinel" (1977) is pretty good. Not about ghosts ...
"The Others" (2001, with Nicole Kidman).
"The Sixth Sense" -- I'm sure everybody knows this one. I managed to see it before anybody spoiled the story for me.
"Poltergeist" (1982) -- you probably know I like this one, since I recently posted a tribute to it that I drew. The sequels weren't that great. Anytime you try to explain the weird happenings, you take away from their scariness.
"The Blair Witch Project" (1999) -- some like this and some don't. I liked it. I found it very scary. It was also just a very different film. One thing that actually better for me was that the Sci-Fi Channel (back when they actually had sci-fi, before they started showing wrestling and changed their name to SyFy) showed an hour-long special before the movie was released, called "The Curse of the Blair Witch," made by the same people who made the movie. It had all kinds of supposed clips about the witch legend and about the serial killer who supposedly lived in her house in the woods, backstory that actually tied into some of the visuals in the movie and made the ending of it much scarier. For me, at least. I didn't bother to see the sequel. Sequels are usually bad.
"The Devil's Backbone (2001, by Guillermo del Toro) -- takes place at a boys' school/orphanage during the Spanish Civil War. Yes, the place is haunted, or it wouldn't be on this list. :)
"An American Haunting" (2005) -- also historical, this takes place in a small town in 1818 and is based on a true story. I liked it.
"The Frighteners" (1996, directed by Peter Jackson, starring Michael J. Fox) -- this one is tense but also funny. Its plot just holds together so well, especially for the kind of movie it is. It's well paced, too.

Wow. You and I have very similar taste in scary movies Jennie! Among my top favorites for scary movies are "The Ring" (saw the Japanese "Ringu" and it is pretty scary too!), "The Blair Witch Project", and "The Frighteners". I make sure I watch "The Blair Witch Project" every year in fact!
I'd recommend you check out an older movie called "Stir of Echoes" with Kevin Bacon. It's a really neat supernatural movie, plus it has Kevin Bacon and I have a mad crush on him *giggles blushin* That one is another movie I watch every October when scary movies are just the best. :)

Yay! I haven't seen "Stir of Echoes" but I keep hearing it mentioned. I should see it. I don't like movies that are just blood-and-gore fests or gross-outs. I like movies where there's actual scariness and suspense.
I didn't put "The Shining" on the list because, well. :)

because my mom would get bored and watch scary movies while she was watching me.... my mom wasnt my parent, my grandma had custody of me so when my mom babysat me she was awkward... i tried to hide in my bedroom when she put the scary movies on but then she said "get out here, im suppose to be watching you." this was when i was like 7 or so... and then i asked if we could watch cartoons instead and she would say no... and i would find myself stuck in the same room with her and her scary movies. -_- it was horrifying.
I was wondering if anyone would notice that. The photo from the movie that I used as a reference had those -- I think they're reflections in the mirror of the light fixture on the ceiling. But I wouldn't be surprised if Stanley Kubrick did that on purpose to add to the sense of menace. It also goes along with the two girls, always together, always side by side. I went with the two-point reflection and put similar reflections in their eyes.
