I found a box of 16 crayons, though most of the colors were missing, and I decided to see what I could do with crayons.

The excuse is the same excuse that applies to pretty much all the images in the category as the one you linked—user has no concept of how to apply artistic medium products. The offending image was done with the crayons being applied as a manual flood-fill device, which they aren't, and the results are naturally somewhat underwhelming.
Remembering back way into the dark ages when I was in little squirt school, the only thing I remember about colored pencils, as we zany Yanks call them, is that if you dropped one, the teacher would get all over your ass because that could shatter the pencils' cores, supposedly. If there was any instruction on controlling and applying layers, I missed it.
