hm, chestnut eyes. :) our shepherd had golden eyes, which is why she was forbidden to officially breed. seeing nowadays' GSD with their hip joint poblems asnd everything, and how our Anka was meek and playful into old age (and still loyal and protective), it's a damn shame what breeders and stupid owners did to those dogs. :P
hey, whassup, pointyface?

Golden eyes? Intelligence rides on the light eyed gene, you know. And they can officially breed if you find a breeder who wants quality pups, instead of show pups. Because in the show ring, light eyes and straight backs are disqualifications. But those two traits are part of the original standard for GSD's before they were destroyed for "fashion" in the show ring.
So find yourself a worthy breeder. I only know this because I work for a breeder.

well, that was in the 80's-90's, so the chance is long gone. we should have bred with her, for obvious reasons.
in eastern germany there are still breeders who look into quality, healthy, "usable" GSD individuals. in the former GDR western-style dog shows never happened, the people had other worries than brushing their whatever-dog to a new sheen. GSDs were watchdogs and family companions, and nothing to put on your shelf, and many breeders there still believe in that nowadays.
here in western germany you can find GSD in dire need of new hip joints at the age of 1 year...
I guess you can tell I could rant on forever about those poor animals bred into shapes never meant by nature, and have to suffer for it all their life.
