This was the last story I wrote before I finally was able to get my retina reattached. It was a fun, yet difficult, write as I wanted to keep it short, yet meaningful without it sounding too corny while ensuring my son could get something out of it when my wife read it to him.
Interestingly enough, this story was based on a recommendation Nishi gave me a year, or so, back called "Bedtime for Frances". In the episode, Frances keeps finding things to scare her out of bed to the point her parents get fed up. Cappy's parents don't get upset with him, but this story is inspired on that episode while also putting a joke on my son who, after seeing "Bedtime for Frances" would be called Frances when he would try and pull the same tricks to stay up past his bedtime. It was quite funny to see how much it bothered him to be seen as Frances and it wasn't long before he would go to bed rather than be referred to as the young badger. :)
Again, please don't mind the tabs and spelling as this was written completely with the screen reader, JAWS, and I am not a pro with it. I know enough to do some rather awesome things without sight, but MS Word definitely through a lot of wrenches at me I gradually got a slight handle on. I hope you are noticing improvements in presentation as you read through this Hapo Healing series.

Awwww, another cute lil cubby story. I remember having that kind of experience when I was little. It didn't help that my older brother would tease me and try to confirm my fears by saying that monsters are real and were coming after me. I remember once seeing what looked like a pair of glowing eyes in the closet when trying to sleep. I freaked out and ran out of the room. Turns out it was just a plushy's plastic eyes reflecting the light.
*Shrugs* You've got to love older siblings. They just can't help themselves but to take advantage of their younger brothers and/or sisters.
As a toddler, I remember how much I loathed having a baby sister. My folks would often get mad at me for using this plastic, laser gun and sticking it in her crib on autofire to bother the daylights out of her. Of course, as I'm sure you and your bro did, we bonded and are glad to have each other.
Glowing eyes, eh? Amazing how light and other things can trick our minds in the night. The imagination can certainly be both a good thing and a bad thing as nothing is worse than a big scare at night. Getting back to sleep after such moments is rough as you can't help but wonder, "Did I see something?" or, in the case of dreams, "Oh, golly! That was scary and I hope what I was seeing isn't around..." :)

*nods* We bonded eventually, but it wasn't until he was much older and wiser. When my little sis was born, I was about 12 or 13 and it actually gave me an excuse to play with toys and such. We got along great and I always looked out for her.
Hehe, yeah, especially when we're young and don't know any better. Little things can seem like such big ones, and everything can be scary in the dark.

Filbert is an amazing Hapo who is the equivelent of a children's Indiana Jones or, perhaps more fitting, Daring Doo. :)
It is quite amazing how the mind can hold onto things without you even realizing it. In Cappy's case, memories of the villians in the story wind up returning in his dreams and turning his room into that which he likely huddled against Fritter during the telling of the tale to feel protected from.
It is quite amazing to think how our imaginations can go wild during unknown / dark situations. :)
