Groundy spoke the truth when she said that the Baldiu Burrly colony was close by. In no time, Groundy and Salazar made it to the colony. The field was very pretty, bustling with different colored grass and many grounderls, as well as Burrlys and Earthurials. Anyone could tell you there was a lot of them, but could any of them tell Salazar how to make the potion that could possibly send him back to normal?
"Where should we start?" Salazar asked Groundy. Salazar was still in awe of the place. There were no houses, but plenty of holes. This suggested that they were the houses. Besides the houses, there were other places of interest as well. Trees were sparce but vibrant. Fields of flowers were visible in the distance. There was a well near the outskirts of the colony as well. And yet, what the place didn't have was a place to start.
Salazar decided to ask the first Earthurial he saw about a potion. "Excuse me," Salazar asked the Earthurial. The Earthurial stopped in its tracks to listen to Salazar. "Hello, stranger," the Earthurial greeted. "Welcome to Baldiu. We do not get many visitors here." Salazar nodded his head, pleased that the Earthurial was so friendly. "Thank you. So anyway... Um..." But Salazar was unsure what to say. He thought about how to ask the question until eventually Groundy asked it for him. "This Pash came to Baldiu to find out of a potion that will reverse the effects of devolution poisoning. Do you know of such a potion?" The Earthurial tilted its head downward. This was not a promising expression.
"I am afraid I do not," the Earthurial said. "I do not even know of anyone who does." Salazar started to get frantic. "You mean I'm stuck as a Pash forever!? I don't want to be a Pash forever!" Salazar started to get on his knees in desperation. "Please, you must know something," he asked. But the friendly Earthurial was particularly repulsed by Salazar's desperateness. Salazar quickly realized he was making a fool of himself as the Earthurial started to walk away.
Salazar shook his head and looked at Groundy. "Sorry about that display," he said. "But there must be someone here who could know." Groundy decided to pat Salazar's back. "I understand," she said. "I'll look for something. Let's see..." Groundy looked around her, seeing all the Burrly, Earthurial, a Werederl... "Huh?" Groundy asked herself as she spotted the Werederl. Groundy decided to get closer to the Werederl. Salazar was unsure what to do, so he just followed her.
Immediately upon approaching the Werederl, it lifted its claw in Groundy and Salazar's direction. "Before you ask why a Werederl is seen in broad daylight when we are nocturnal creatures, I'm looking for medicine to help me fall asleep." The Werederl said it like he was asked a lot of questions, and already knew what Groundy was going to ask. But what Salazar was interested in was the mention of medicine. "Medicine you say?" Salazar asked. "I'm looking for medicine to reverse the effects of devolution poison."
"Hmmm..." the Werederl thought sheepishly. "I do know of a potion that might help you," the Werederl said. "But you'll have to round up the ingredients yourself." Salazar looked over at Groundy and smiled. "I don't care what I have to do, I'll do it." The Werederl started to smile. "Then I suppose you will want the ingredients then," he said. "Well, you're in luck. They are easily accessible in the Baldiu community." This kept Salazar's attention.
"Right, in order to make this potion," the Werederl said. "You need an Orb Seed, a clump of Grounderl hair, some Well Water, and a blue flower known as Lilly of the Links. All of which can be found in the area." Salazar stuttered. "G... Grounderl Hair?" Salazar looked at Groundy in worry, then back to the Werederl. "Oh, and one more thing," the Werederl said. "Grounderls don't shed." Eventually the Werederl walked away, leaving Salazar to scratch his head.
"Grounderl Hair?" Salazar didn't want to just pluck it out of Groundy's body. "Are you positive that's the ingredient list?" Groundy nodded her head. "I believe so, if I remember right." Salazar was still worried. "But how are we going to get Grounderl hair without plucking it out?" Groundy did it herself. "Don't worry, Salazar," Groundy reasured. "It will grow back." Groundy held onto her hair as they eventually went to find the other ingredients. Fortunately, the next ingredient, the Orb Seed, was right near the foot of a nearby tree, covered in dirt. "There, that's the next ingredient," Groundy said as she picked up the orb seed and handed it to Salazar.
That's when Salazar realized. They had nothing to mix the potion in. OR anything to carry well water in. But as it would turn out, the Werederl was following them. "I forgot to mention," the Werederl said. "If you want a vial to carry the water, I got one right here." The Werederl handed Salazar a vial. Salazar grabbed it in his tail. "And if you want to mix them all, I have a cauldron at my house. Find the ingredients and I'll take you there. Tatty bye." The Werederl left after this info. Salazar was not getting a friendly vibe from him. Groundy wasn't either, but she shrugged it off. "Let's just get the rest of the ingredients," Groundy said. And that's what they ended up doing.
Salazar visited the well where saw before when he came to get some water from the well. It was a bit slimey with bits of algea in it. Maybe there was a reason it had to be water from a well. Eventually they went to the flower field, where the bright blue Lily of the Links was easy to pick out from the other flowers. And afterward, they returned to the place where the Werederl was found.
"Well, I was expecting you to come," the Werederl said, who was standing right next to a hole. Salazar rolled his eyes. "Well, if you would bring the ingredients to me, I will get started." Groundy still did not fully trust the Werederl, so she gathered the ingredients from Salazar and went towards the Werederl before saying "I will go with you." The Werederl didn't even flinch. "Very well, come down." Salazar watched Groundy and the Werederl eventually went down the hole.
They took about an hour down there. Salazar was starting to get worried. Did Groundy get felled down there? Salazar was unsure how long it took to brew a potion, but now Salazar was thinking about curling his tail on a tree and taking a snooze. Eventually a voice was heard. "Now go on, the sleeping medicine is taking effect and I don't have much time till morning. Tatty bye." As the Werederl was talking, Groundy came out, and she was carrying the potion that could change Salazar back.
"Here's the potion," Groundy said. "Drink up." Salazar slowly and kindly took the potion and started to drink it. After a few gulps he started to look around his body. His legs weren't changed. His feet were still as short as they always were. His arms were still the same, as well as the tail. ...Nothing changed about him at all. He was still a Pash. Salazar started to droop his head down.
"Maybe it works over night," Salazar said to himself. Groundy went over to Salazar and patted his back again. "Don't worry, sometimes potions do that," she said. "I'm sure if you slept, it would take effect soon." Salazar stood up and smiled. "You're right," he said to Groundy. And then he thought of something. "So I guess this means we're done?" Salazar liked Groundy, and wouldn't mind having a new friend, but he felt that Groundy only did it out of the goodness of her heart instead of friendship. They just met. But Groundy gave him reasurance. "We can still be friends," Groundy said with a smile. Salazar was pretty happy to be around Groundy. As he left, he waved good bye and kept a smile on his face. "Goodbye," Groundy called out as he was leaving. And then, they were far apart from each other.
After consuming the potion, Salazar kept to the outskirts of the Miggins colony, climbing the nearest tree he could. Salazar climbed up, and curled his tail on a long branch 6 ft away from the ground. And then, he fell down and went to sleep. Waiting for the changes to take effect.
Morning struck the Miggens Pash colony, and Salazar was in no hurry to wake up. But eventually he did. As his eyes started to open, he viewed the sun rise over the horizon from an inverted view. Hey yawned out loud as he stretched his arms outward. And as he did, he saw his arms. His left arm was always a claw, but his right arm would now be a snake if he changed back. ...But it wasn't a snake. It was just like the other arm. He looked down to his torso, which was still small and boney. His feet were still short, as was his tail. That's when Salazar realized his worst fears. The Potion didn't work. He was still a Pash. His appearance shocked him into letting go of the branch, eventually falling to the ground. As he hit the ground, he raised his arms in the air. "NOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooo..." he yelled before reverting more to a whine. He fell down all the way to the ground and started to cry. "I'm going to be a Pash forever..."
