Beauty of the Beast
By Nightwish
Composed by Tuomas Holopainen
Trees have dropped their leaves,
Clouds their waters
All this burden is killing me
Distance is covering your way,
Tears your memory
All this beauty is killing me
Oh, do you care,
I still feel for you
So aware,
What should be lost is there
I fear I will never find anyone
I know my greatest pain is yet to come
Will we find each other in the dark
My long lost love
Oh, do you care,
I still feel for you
So aware,
What should be lost is there
I've wanted to create a cover version of this song for a long time. It's by my absolute favourite band, Nightwish, and it is particularly special to me because of the lyrics, singing about still feeling for lost love. Earlier this year I experienced something that made this song relevant for me. The actual song goes for ten minutes and this is only the first section of three.
This must be the first time I've actually recorded my voice since I usually only do instrumental music. I spent a long long time on this to get it the way I wanted, and I was surprised at how hard it was to sing in tune. I don't have autotune or anything so I have to do my best to do it right. I used Cubase 5 with Halion One instruments and East West Quantum Leap Symphonic Library for the orchestral instruments in the backing, and I recorded my voice in Cool Edit Pro.
