A pic a friend took of me on the air way back in 1997 when I was the evening DJ at Classic Rock "96-X" KKTX-AM-FM in Longview Texas. If I ever locate this photo again, I'll make a better scan of it. I did this scan on one of those really cheap hand scanners around the same time.
Notice the beat up control board that had been in use since 1981, Technics CD players, cart machine and Sports Illustrated swimsuit calendar. Monitors were ancient 70's things from Radio Shack, but they could crank.
The computer keyboard ran to a primitive 386 for automating commercials and liners for the ABC Network's satellite classic rock format for overnights and weekends.
Things were changing quickly. The station was later bought by Capstar, which merged into Clear Channel, moved to Tyler (into a "cluster" with 4 other stations) and our 6 DJ staff was quickly cut back to 2. That's the last time I worked in radio.

In 1997 I was a forklift operator in a warehouse. I was loading and unloading trucks for a living.
Nice set up you had there. By the way, Did you also talked through out the begining of each song until the singer started to sing like they do now? That shit always bothered me when DJ's do that.

It's funny, after 96-X moved out in 2000, a Black Gospel station that used to be in Jefferson TX moved into our old studios. I guess they liked the way it was set up.
96-X was a old style FM station and I remember not talking over the intro of songs, and then starting to talk near the end of songs. I need to dig out those old aircheck tapes and see what I did.

Looks like an old Broadcast Electronics rotary style console. The last time I saw one of these in operation was on a Country station in the early 2000's. Eventually the owners moved the station into town and replaced it with one of those AudioArts analog consoles. If they didn't move it this console would probably still be on the air today O.o
I would love to hear some of your airchecks from way back when!

Back in the late 80's and 90's many of the East Texas stations were using Autogram boards with the big rotary knobs. They were out of Plano TX at the time. But 96-X was using BE boards and equipment they bought in the seventies and eighties.
I dont know if the FA TOS would allow a scoped (aka music edited out) aircheck. But I know I could put it on Divshare.

The only pieces of BE gear I've had experience with is their automation and transmitters (console wasn't mine to deal with!) One of those products you'll most likely see at any radio cluster, pretty much standard issue these days.
Another good alternative is Soundcloud. Works well for sharing anything audio related :3

I still do radio, from 1981 up to today. I was on today 12-4 pm playing blues, New Orleans, etc. Cool cut from new Dylan album. Classic blues and some recent artists, too. Hot Tuna. Some great live stuff
from a band I know, which I recorded. I'm on a couple times per month and still have a blast!
