Great character I've really been enjoying working on. I really wanted to try to make his wings feel more real, somehow bat-like wings are something I have very little experience with at all. I tried to lightly layer the fur on the wings as if they're feathers, and going into his arm some to make the transition smooth. I had to fudge his anatomy a lot around his wrist since actual bat wings use the finger bones to spread the membrane, he needs to have 'human' hands so I had to make some fictitious bone structure. I tried to put some meat at the base of those bones though to make them believable. Making something look cool, and making something look functional are two very different things, haha ;_;
This was really fun, I learned some things.

Very nicely done... I love the setting, of course, but some of the more technical details here are stunning. I love the way you can see the light shining through the membrane of his wing, the slightly-unsure stance, the detail in the crowd in the background... I'd say it's a job well done! c:
And I think the wings look just fine. Like you said, sometimes looking aesthetically pleasing and being realistic aren't one and the same. I think you've made an excellent compromise between the two.

You could buy and sell their indenture contracts, and thus could buy and sell the 'right' to their labor (in Australia at least; I don't know about America or any other countries which had indentured servants). Also, in a post-apocalyptic world I would imagine that indentured servants and slaves would not necessarily work the same way as they did historically.
No different than killing orcs or shooting aliens. Fantasy is fantasy. Do I have fantasy about chaining a girl to the wall and fucking her stupid, yeah, would I ever do it? Well hell no, even if she gave it to me in writing that she wanted me to. We all fantasize about things we would find off putting in real life. I mean, chopping a monster's head off in real life would be horrible. Bloody, smelly, not to mention the image of it being burned into your skull for days, weeks, years. But it's fun to pretend.
This isn't a fantasy of mine, but I fully support indulging fantasy. Denying and repressing it only makes you more likely to do something wrong in real life. Just my .02

Bat wings on an anthropomorphic character pose such an interesting problem, don't they? You really need to retain the hands, otherwise they are only good for flying, but to do so you need to take certain liberties with biology. Not that that matters - a being this size with wings in real life (in any configuration) would be too heavy for flight anyway. So it doesn't matter!
