Personal - Golden Curls
~~~
More practice and personal work in between studying and commissions... I actually sketched this guy back in...June, methinks. I'm glad I waited until I got this style in my arsenal to colour him out.
He was going to be green...but then my love of tans and earthy colours came out, and he now even has some fancy leopard-inspired marks.
Time taken - about one hour.
Constructive criticism is welcome! commissions in this style are still available. ^^
Enjoy! :D
Thank you! :) And yep, I did the background all myself - just a bunch of texture layers, blended with different colours, an overlay of the dragon, and different settings. ^^ I usually just do texture backgrounds, but have been trying out the frame effect.
Awww yeah noodley dragons! My favorite kind <33 He looks wonderful with the sandy tan colour!
The only critique I would offer would be to maybe straighten out the curves of the tail. The way they bend seems too sharp, like the tail's broken. As far as I know, vertebrae cannot bend that sharply in any animal. I could be wrong though!
I love them too! I don't know why I don't draw them more often... I think it's because I love wings so much, heh. But I've been sketching more lately, so I should have some new noodly guys up soon, inshallah! :D
I've actually been trying to make my tails look more like this. I think it looks like the muscles and such are bending rather than just smooth, flat curves. It also adds 'time' and depth into the drawing - like the angle where the tail is curling away or towards the viewer would show up as a bend rather than just a smooth line... http://www.wildmed.com/blog/wp-cont.....0/01/snake.jpg Like this snake, where his neck bends! That's what I'm going for. :3
Oooh I see what you're going for now. Yeah I agree it does look like a bend rather than a curve. Though I think it may look better with a heavier, more detailed shading, yeah? Now that I have the idea in my head, I can see it, but that illusion seems like it'd be hard to achieve with this shading method, and others might be thrown like I was unless they know what they're looking at.
And hey, who says you can't draw noodley dragons with wings? O: I rather think they look ace with wings! Especially feathered wings!
