That is a wonderful color palette. While I can't see anything wrong with the first one, I can't complain that you're producing more art. :P

I the problem is that I really liked his face in the sketch, but when I painted over it, it changed.

I often have this problem with painting commissions. I feel the need to get down a clear sketch before starting, but then as I paint all of my detail goes away and I can never get it back and it drives me nuts.

I have to learn to sketch looser and add details with the paint later, but it's so hard. . .

I think the face looks really nice, but BOY do I understand the whole "applying paint changes this and IN A WAY I DO NOT LIKE" thing.

The original has a lot of nice depth, I really feel like I am looking into a little slice of forest. :) I think the way the trees fade really helps with that, it increases the sense of depth a lot.

I'd be very curious to see you do what you are aiming at, though - I think the level of detail in your paintings is already pretty much perfect, not too much not too little, but I completely understand it not being what you're going for so you aren't happy with it. Seeing you put to paper what you think it should look like would be interesting.

It might, but I think you'll still do something that looks nice.

Maybe there's an issue involving size? Like, maybe you need to work a lot bigger to get the detail you'd like to see?

I actually like both. Original one I like Abe's head a bit better, sketch I like the background better.

Sorry! I worked on the original because I was really concerned about the face looking right, and that's the one you preferred for the face. I got it to where I thought it was finished and got ready to upload it, but every time I took a picture of it I HATED it and couldn't think of sending it to you, so I thought I'd work on the other one instead but I've been so crappy at finishing art lately and so distracted by other things (You can view my latest journal about the animal abuser that my partner and I are attempting to prosecute or another where we're about to move, and etcetc). . . I just. . . failed you a lot D:>

I am veryvery sorry about this whole thing. I've been a terrible artist in general this whole year, and if you would like a refund I can get that to you, along with the finished original version or I can attempt to finish the second sketch (which I can estimate getting done by the end of February, because holey cow when we move on the First I'm going to try and take that as a fresh start and get back into the groove of art).

I have already packed up most of my art stuff (that must sound convenient, but it's true) which includes this badge. Hopefully We'll be unpacking the week of the 2nd, and when I find it I'll post pictures for you, and then you can decide if you want it or not? Either way (refund or not) you can have it! Basically I've added more contrast and made it overall less monochrome, fixed the name, etc.

Honestly at this point you really deserve a refund and then some.
