The Gorge is one of the natural wonders of the Kingdom, an exotic location watched by small groups of young soldiers in training, usually guided by an older, higher-ranked unit such as the Slayers.
Once divided by civil conflicts, today this is considered a peaceful place, especially after a threaty guaranteed a fair distribution of lands and tax incomes to each community.
The soldiers, on the other hand, don't have much time to enjoy the cool, sandy breeze, since their training is considered one of the hardests in the Kingdom. The training usually pays off, though, thanks to the wonderful sights and the chance of being promoted to high ranks in no time.

Once again, a picture in which I challenged myself to follow a deadline. Unlike the Dragon Berserk pic, this time I wanted a full, multi-layered landscape and multiple characters in it. That little fire they made on the right and the composition itself are really disturbing me, though I'm quite satisfied with the rest of the pic, as far as the short deadline goes.

Ahh so this was the piece you mentioned before. Great that you are pushing further out into new territory and challenging yourself.
Sweet that you are getting more thought of this world and building it up, and creating your own stories and conflicts :]
You're getting better at using values for your landscape and creating a sense of depth with them. Also nice brush marks on the grass and path leading up to the two.
I guess one thing that would help enhance it would be a bit of cloud definition, and maybe more shadows being cast on ground from them like you have in the foreground.
And I do wonder how they get across that gorge :0

One thing that amazes me when drawing characters in a complex scene is the need to go from one part of the picture to another, adding little details here and there, it's addictive! As for values and depth, I always remember an advice you gave me some time ago (it was a picture with a dark mountain on the background), and now I try to see the way it looks in real life. Living in a foggy city helps, haha! You're right about the clouds and shadows. I tried to create a cloudy atmosphere (with tons of diffuse light) but I ended up overdoing it, I think.
How do they get across? Hm... not sure yet, but this classic from the 90s instantly came to my mind! http://youtu.be/36RiZwWxrV8
