Psychosis is Hypnosis II: The Vendetta Diagnosis
Running through the rainy night on four legs was a figure cloaked in a thick, hooded purple coat. It seemed to be in a rush, eager to get out of the terrible, soggy weather despite its waterproof clothing. The figure ran up a hill where a multi-story foreboding establishment stood, surrounded by a tall barrier of spike topped gates. For a while, it stood perfectly still, seemingly ignoring the rain as it stared continuously at the building up ahead. Its eyes then glanced over at a decaying wooden sign to the side.
The sign read, “Pokemon Asylum” in chunky, unorganized black lettering.
The Pokemon gulped nervously before walking through the gate, its head frequently turning left and right, glancing at the creepy surroundings. When it reached the towering double doors, it hesitated for a couple of seconds before giving them a push, opening the entrance with an echoing creek. Taking a peek inside revealed nothing but darkness, but the faint sound of someone writing could be heard somewhere inside the building. After taking a nervous gulp, the Pokemon ventured inside on its hind legs. Once the Pokemon was out of the rain, it took off its hood, revealing itself to be a young, female Eevee. The name of this Pokemon was Nevah Gem. Her smooth fur had black and white colouring, which distinguished her from the average, run-of-the-mill variety.
As she walked further into the darkened facility, she saw a Sableye sitting at the reception desk, writing under the dim light of the desk lamp. Nevah gulped nervously, slowing her approach towards the Dark-type. When she took another step forward, the Sableye looked up at her in an instant. After giving Nevah a wide and creepy grin, it disappeared under the desk.
Nevah let out a surprised gasp and steadily advanced towards the desk. She peered behind the desk at a slow pace, finding nothing at all; scaring her more than it befuddled her.
“Can I help you?” a creepy voice from Nevah inquired, making her jump a mile.
Shivering from her fright, Nevah swiftly turned around and saw the Sableye with a teasing grin spread across his face. “Don’t scare me like that!” she exclaimed, trying to show anger in her expression.
“I do apologize, my dear.” Sableye said, his attitude and following chortle proving otherwise. “So, what brings you to this grim and dire abode?”
"I am here to see Dark." Nevah replied, still feeling nervous being in the presence of this creepy ghost.
"You are here to see the dark? You've sure come a long way to see something so widespread, especially at this time of the day." Sableye sarcastically pointed out.
"No! I am looking for a Pokemon named Darkening Lotsamoni!"
"Hehehehehe, how intriguing." Sableye stated, hovering a circle around the Eevee, increasing her nervous tension just a tad. "Tell me, little Eevee, what is your relation to Darkening Lotsamoni?" his grin curled up a little more. "Sorry, but it's against regulation to allow just anybody to see the patients."
"I am his, um...his adopted sister!" Nevah lied, her pupils shifting from side-to-side nervously.
The Eevee hoped that her act of falsehood would fool this ghostly employee. There was a brief moment of silence, escalating the tension felt by Nevah.
“Normally I would ask for proof of identification, buuuuuutt...” The Sableye began to say, rubbing under his out-stretched chin. “I am finding this all too...hehehehe...amusing. Thus I will allow you to see our only prosperous patient.” Sableye learned in close to Nevah, "If you ask me, I say he was always crazy..." he whispered into her ear, followed by a snide chuckle.
“No he wasn’t....” Nevah quietly huffed, puffing up her cheeks.
Nevah hung her coat up on the stand by the desk as Sableye hovered over to the door leading to the patient ward and went through it. Nevah tilted her head in bewilderment and slowly made her way over towards the door. All of a sudden, the door unlocked from the other side and opened up, making the timed Eevee jump. Sableye, who still retained his teasing smirk, gave her a beckoning hand gesture, Nevah’s cheeks puffed up once more before following the joking ghoul into the corridor where insane moans and wails were constant.
“Stay close now, little one.” Sableye instructed as he glided through the barley-lit ward.
Nevah nodded and followed, now more on edge thanks to the help from the crazed Pokemon gave her spine-chilling glares from the their cells. She squealed in fear and hugged Sableye from behind. The Sableye turned its head around, giving the scared Eevee a wide and creepy grin, freaking her even more and causing her to leap backwards.
“Not that close.” Sableye said with a chortle.
The diamond-eyed spectre stopped by a door and unlocked it. Once it was open, he stepped to one side to allow Nevah to enter the room. As with every other room, it was cloaked in darkness with only the moonlight shining from the barred window as a guide. Nevah could just about make out a figure sat up against the back wall. She hesitantly took a step inside, feeling the smooth, cold padded floor underfoot.
“D-Dark...?” she softly asked.
There was no response from the shadowy figure. Plucking up a little more courage, Nevah ventured forward, eyes entirely focused on the figure she assumed was Darkening. She failed to notice Sableye opening up a secret panel to reveal a light switch. The lights blinked a few times before lightening up the room to show that the figure was indeed the infamous Darkening Lotsamoni. The Pikachu remained motionless, dressed up tightly in a straitjacket, his attention seemly on something else. In his eyes were purple and red spirals swirling around in a steady, endless pattern. It was ironically apparent that the affluent rodent was under a deep hypnotic trance evident by his eyes and lack of acknowledgment to Nevah’s presence.
“Hello again, Dark!” Nevah chirped, a wide smile formed on her once petrified complexion. “I’ve come to pay you a visit!” She placed her paw on Darkening’s forehead, giving it a few gentle pats. “How are you?”
“I am a mentally disturbed Pikachu, Mistress Nevah.” Darkening responded, his voice monotone and far from being demented as he claimed to be.
Nevah giggled, “Well, you were, but now you are all cured!” She explained with a happier grin. “I am here to take you home!”
“Hehehehe!” Sableye laughed. “As touching as this is, I am afraid I cannot allow him to leave at this moment.” He informed Nevah, floating over to her. “Regulations - I hate them too, hehehehe.”
“B-But I have enough money to bail him out!” Nevah told him.
“Hehehehe, I am sure you do. After all, you did say you were his, heheheh, adopted sister.” He replied, his tone showing signs he had seen through Nevah’s lie. “However, I don’t have the privilege of allowing the mentally handicapped Pokemon to come and go. In fact, I do believe visiting times ended hours ago.” He stated, his grin growing and his diamond eyes gleaming sinisterly.
Nevah was speechless at this divulge of misinformation. Fortunately, she knew what to do to avoid any approaching trouble with the actual owners of this establishment. Nevah glared at the ghostly trickster, her eyes becoming a spectacle of swirling purple and red spirals. Taking a page out of Darkening’s book, Nevah was planning to hypnotize Sableye as her only resort. This act was not only enough to finally rub the mocking smirk from Sableye’s face, but also make him suggestible to the black and white Eevee’s commands. If only he knew such an innocent youth had such powers, he would have been more mentally prepared.
“You will give me permission to take Darkening out.” Nevah said in a stern voice.
“I will give you permission to take Darkening out.” Sableye mindlessly mumbled.
“Thank you!” Nevah giggled, petting Sableye on the head. “Now, can you please take off his straight jacket?”
“Yes, Mistress...” Sableye said with a monotone mutter.
Hunching over, the entranced spectre floated over to Darkening and unstrapped the restraining jacket. Once this was done, he returned to the exact same spot he once was, keeping his body position.
“Thank you!” Nevah said, accompanied with a friendly giggle. She took out a wad of cash from her pocket fur and placed it on top of the Sableye’s head. “Here is the bail money, come on Darkening!”
Darkening nodded and, with assistance from Nevah, got to his feet. The two departed from the cell, leaving Sableye all alone with his mind still under Nevah’s power. On the way out, Nevah stuck close to Darkening, regaining her fear of the crazed inmates moaning and gawking at her with their tongues hanging out. She prayed that this would be the very last time she would come here.
Much to Nevah’s delight, the raining weather had cleared up, leaving only a cold breeze as a mild bother. After grabbing her coat, she joyfully trotted out from the nuthouse with a hypnotized Darkening tailing close behind. Their destination was the Lotsamoni mansion where it actually all began. Nevah recollected her memories; the memories of being saved by her good mind and her mind reverted back to normal, freed from Darkening’s unjustified corruption. She remembered her rage towards the despicable rodent. She remembered that she had to get revenge.
It had only been a week since Darkening spitefully sent Nevah to the Pokemon Asylum and rewrote her mind to enjoy her time there. Even though there were clear signs of regret lingering in what was left of his conscience, he was far from being in a rush to retrieve Nevah. She had been brainwashed to see the asylum as her loving home and that was good enough for him. There would be no more sudden, annoying interruptions from the naive youngling that only wanted to spend time with someone she liked. Or so he thought...
Hidden in the shadows of the darkened night outside was Nevah herself. Her loveable, innocent personality absent from her cute face and mindset, replaced with a sensation of blind rage and revenge. Darkening has broken her in more ways than one. She stared at Darkening through the window, glaring at what seemed like forever at the prosperous rodent puffing away on his long cigarette-holder. A Quilava maid walked into the room to serve her boss a cup of Earl Grey tea before leaving after a courteous bow. Nevah couldn’t help but feel sympathy for her, thinking she was another hapless victim of Darkening’s hypnosis.
Darkening yawned and rose to his feet; Nevah reacted by ducking down out of sight. Cautiously, Nevah peeked through the window again just in time to witness the Pikachu leave the room to head upstairs.
“He’s heading upstairs...” Nevah whispered to herself.
Nevah dug her paws into the nearby bush, pulling out a pair of tailored orange boots with sharp claws. She put them on and leaped onto the mansion walls and effortlessly scaled up to the upstairs window. The stately abode had many rooms, over half were still left unexplored by Nevah, but she knew for a fact where Darkening’s bedroom was. The faint scent of cigarette smoke wafting from the open window next to her only clarified her hunch. She waited for the familiar sound of the bedroom door closing before leaping through the window, succeeding in scaring Darkening, but failing at landing. Nevah uncontrollably rolled across the floor, narrowly missing Darkening who was just about swift enough to step-side.
“Nevah, what on earth are you doing here?!” Darkening requested, his heart skipping a beat.
“VEE!!” Nevah angrily cried, lunging at the tuxedo wearing rat, knocking him off his feet. Despite her rage, she made sure not to stab his chest with her clawed footwear when she pinned him down.
“Nevah, I know I made you love being insane, but I assumed you would keep it to the asylum!” Darkening snarled
These poor choice of words enraged Nevah further. Nevah growled and, with a combination of continuous slashing and biting, ripped Darkening’s tuxedo to shreds. Darkening was scared out of his mind, only able to fearfully mumble incoherent dialogue. Nevah lowered her head closer to Darkening’s, her eyes looking deeply and menacingly into his, growling fiercely. All of a sudden, her pupils started to progressively shrink to the size pin-pricks. The pupils then changed colour into a mixture of purple and red before expanding and twirling into a spiralling formation. Darkening knew what she was doing and couldn’t believe it, even more so than her mindless rage. It was hypnosis. Not even Nevah knew where she picked up this skill. However, she did not care at this point of time. This path of revenge was just as fitting as it was ironic.
“N-N-Nevah....” Darkening managed to stutter, his eyes mimicking the barrage of colourful spirals.
All of a sudden, there was a few gentle knocks on the door. “Um, Mr Lotsamoni...?” spoke a young, female voice from the other side. “I am just about to end my shift and leave for home. Do you want anything before I go?”
“Tell her no! Now!” Nevah fumed, thinking Darkening was already under her control.
There was a moment of silence before Darkening eventually responded in any way. “No, I will no longer require your services tonight, Quilava maid...” he dully spoke out, just about loud enough to be heard by the maid.
“Oh, alright...see you tomorrow, Mr Lotsamoni...”
“Now Darkening, I want you to act like a crazy Pokemon and love it!” Nevah instructed after making sure the maid was out of hearing range. “You will dance like a drunk, you will act silly to every maid in here, and you will be as loud as possible! And when you get sent to the nuthouse, you will love it there and remain crazy as a loon for two whole days before sitting quietly like a good boy!”
Darkening gave a nod, acknowledging his orders without hesitation or complaints. On his face, a twisted, unnerving grin curled up, giving Nevah an indication that the commands were quick acting. She took her paw off Darkening’s stomach, hastily moving to a safe spot.
“YEEEEHEEEE!!” Darkening loudly bellowed running and smashing straight through his bedroom door.
When Nevah heard a huge crash, she dashed out of the room via the Pikachu-sized hole and saw Darkening skid out of another room with a lampshade over his head. She laughed hysterically at the sight of Darkening waltzing with an imaginary partner while humming an unrecognizable tune, his pitch escalating and decreasing at random timing.
“Hello Eevee, I am Shady Brightly! I love to prance while I dance!” Darkening exclaimed, spinning around similar to a ballerina as he passed by Nevah.
Darkening leaped up onto the banister to slide down, whooping all the way, and gathering the attention of the disturbed maids. Showing a surprising amount of dexterity, the rabid rodent bounced up to the chandelier hanging overhead, grabbing hold of it to swing on it like some crazed Aipom.
“Swing, swing, I say! Bring the house down, no delay!” Darkening screamed, followed by a loud, manic bout of laughter.
“S-Sir, get down before you hurt yourself!” A concerned Mawile maid called out to him.
“He has gone completely insane!” A Mismagius maid amusingly pointed out. “I figured he would at some point, but not at this calibre.”
Darkening released his grip as soon as he swung to the highest possible point, sending himself flying through the air and crashing straight into a grandfather clock. Despite the deep dent he left, Darkening recovered rather quickly, showing no pain and darted over to the Mawile maid. He pressed up his face to hers, his wide, disturbing smile a huge contrast to the maid’s freaked out disposition.
“I am far from being clocked out; I am just coo-coo!” He said moments before licking down her face.
As expected, the poor maid screamed and pushed away her insane boss the hardest she could. “GET AWAY FROM ME, YOU FREAK!!” she jumped backwards two steps. “YOU BELONG IN A MENTAL WARD!”
“I concur,” the Mismagius stated, chuckling. “I shall inform the authorities immediately to take him away. While we wait, I will feed off his exaggerated emotions.” After receiving confused stares from the other maids, she elaborated. “Not in the way you all think obviously. Let’s just say I get a special reaction from other Pokemon’s emotions.”
Nevah remained at the top of the stairs, observing her vengeance in satisfied silence. She had to cover her mouth to avoid laughing when the workers from the asylum arrived ten minutes later to take Darkening away, screaming like a banshee.
“I am a Gengar Opera singer!” Darkening announced, wailing at a higher, ear-raping pitch.
Nevah giggled at the memories she had about the events that transpired that special night. She wouldn’t be forgetting them any time soon. The Eevee was so caught up in her precious flashbacks that she didn’t notice they had arrived on the Lotsamoni estate.
“Oh!” she exclaimed, “We are back home, Darkening!” she faced him, her face beaming with the brightest of smiles. “I bet you are happy to be back here, aren’t you, Dark?”
“Yes, Mistress Nevah...” Darkening apathetically replied.
Nevah strode casually into the mansion, Darkening in tow. The door was unlocked due to a small selection of OCD maids cleaning the upstairs rooms, preparing for the owner’s possible return. Nevah jumped up onto the sofa, grooving her butt to get into a comfortable position as soon as she made contact. The entranced Darkening remained by the door, unable to perform any simple tasks without it being a command.
“Dark, I am hungry; can you get me something to eat please?” Nevah politely ordered, looking over the sofa at him, tail wagging. “If you have any Sitrus berries, I will have some of them please!”
“Yes, Mistress Nevah...” Darkening spoke as customary.
And with that, Darkening travelled into the kitchen to fulfil his mistress’s request. Nevah giggled and laid down sideways on the couch, head resting on the armrest. Since she was no longer angry at Darkening, she would eventually snap him out of it. In the meantime, there was no real harm in keeping him as her servant. Unlike Darkening, Nevah’s devious streak was justifiable and reasonably short. A food servant would more than suffice for her.
END
This is the sequel to the story where Darkening sent poor, innocent Nevah to the Pokemon asylum. What could possibly happen in this one? Is Darkening going to cause more grief for Nevah? Or is something completely unexpected going to happen?
