When I was young, my father would often take me out for a drive to some office or worksite on an errand for the bushfire brigade. When you are young, this is possibly one of the most awesome things you can do - cruising around the state in a fire truck.
One time we had to pick up some equipment from a site at the bottom of a fire trail. Once on the trail, my dad picked me up and plonked me down in front of the steering wheel. Here I was, a lad of 4 suddenly in control of a personnel carrier heading down into the depths of the bush.
It didn't last long as the trail had subsided further down, so dad took control again to get the PC through. But for that brief moment in time - I drove a fire truck.
And I loved it.

This is the first in a series of images I have commissioned that I shall be uploading over the next few days. This series covers key moments from my life that I have spent with my father.
Please sit back, and enjoy.

As a Rural Firie myself, I can agree with you on the fire truck, it is an awesome feeling, even if you aren't responding to an event. travelling 1.5 hours under lights and sirens to a fire was a really awesome experience, well, for a newbie like I was at the time it was.
You get to see so much of the state that if you weren't a firie, you would never see, and experience things, like Kangaroos following the truck that make things surreal (then there is the bad things)
Love the pic though.
