Well, that's NASA for you, I'm guessing that these creatures found one of the old Voyager or Galileo probes. When you realize that those things were made before IC technology was really cheap, meaning that the scientists had to use slide-rules instead of expensive calculators that could crunch numbers, or fast computers that could model trajectories, it makes those old NASA successes, as well as those of other space agencies, even more impressive.

Can't wait to see what they are looking at. :)
