"It's said that brothers are supposed to protect each other. To be there for each other through hard times. To see them through good and bad times. To praise their accomplishments, and enchourage the best through their failures. Even when one succeeds many times, while another fails, brothers are supposed to be there for each other. Most brothers know and realize this, even if their brother gets on their nerves. No one could hate their brother enough to forget what being a brother was all about. ...No one but mine.
Salazar the Marmera."
This is the story of Salazar, a tall Marmera who lived with his brother in Miggins Forest. What is a Marmera? You ever played videogames? Those small animals you trap inside even smaller spheres who breathe fire and shoot lightning? A Marmera is a lot like that. Marmeras are much like those creatures in that they can evolve, breathe fire, and do other cool things. No spheres, though. Or humans. Unlike those creatures, Marmeras are intelligent. They can talk and build things. They live with many other creatures who are just as intelligent, including Grounderls. These creatures live in many different areas. Marmera lived in forests, while Grounderl live on fields.
But Salazar did not have a happy life with his brother, Adrian. Salazar and his brother used to go to school together. Salazar would generally get good grades in school, as well as honors and medals. While Adrian, on the other hand, was never a grade A student. He would try his hardest, but Salazar always did better than him. And yet, Salazar never used this to rub it in his brothers face. Salazar always supported his brother, going out of his way to help with his homework. Salazar wasn't perfect, no one was, but Salazar tried to be as nice as possible.
But Adrian, on the other hand, never liked Salazar. Adrian was blinded by jeleousy, always living in his brother's shadow. He never accepted his brothers help, and always strived to become better than his brother, through any means neccessary. And because of this, Adrian was very competative. But no matter what, Adrian could never out-do Salazar. Adrian was rotten towards his brother. He could never get over the fact that his brother was more successful than him. Even with Salazar's support, Adrian hated his brother's success.
Marmera's are a fully grown creature, who start out as a tiny Pash. Marmera's were fiery creatures who had fire sprout from their eyebrows and their tail. They have long snouts, on their face, as well as a long arm tipped with claws, and another arm in the form of a living snake. Their long, pink legs were built to be agile and athletic, but not generally fast. Their huge, monstrous tail is longer than their body is tall, and generally very strong. Their strong tails can keep them aloft on all except the most brittle branches. As for the fire on their tail, it's normally put out.
And one day, Adrian finally snapped. He became so disgusted by Salazar's success, that he poisoned a drink that Salazar was consuming at the time. Not to kill him, that would prove nothing. Adrian wanted Salazar to not be as good as him, and he could only do this one way. ...To revert Salazar into a Pash. Pash are much smaller than Marmera, have shorter legs and feet, as well as a bony torso and a smaller tail. They also lack a snake arm.
That day was when Salazar's life changed for the worse. Salazar became an outcast to the Miggins forest colony. No one believes Salazar when he says that Adrian poisoned him into a Pash. Even the other Pash wouldn't play with him. And because of this, Salazar spent his entire time on the outskirts of the community, playing next to a mole-hill.
"Being a Pash is so boring," Salazar said to himself. Salazar started to dig into the mole hill with a stick. It was the only way he knew how to pass the time. "But it was so fun the first time. Everyone was nice to me, and I was nice back. The Pash from my day were so playful. They knew all the best games, could tell jokes really well. And now... they're stuck up towards Pash who were just a little bit different from them. I feel like such an outcast.
As Salazar was drawing random shapes into the ground, Salazar could have sworn he heard something in the hill. Salazar peeped his down into the hill before immediately pulling it out to make way for an oncoming creature. Eventually, a Grounderl surfaced from the hill. "Whew, what a dig," the Grounderl stated. "Good thing my father didn't catch me sneaking off." Salazar was not noticed right away by the Grounderl, as the Grounderl had its back turned to Salazar.
"Ummm... hi?" Salazar said upfront. Salazar always tried new things, including friendship with unfamiliar creatures. And since Salazar could not make friends with the Pash in the Miggens colony, Salazar had a feeling that maybe it would be easier to befriend a Grounderl. "You look like a nice Grounderl. My name's Salazar."
The Grounderl immediately turned to face Salazar. Grounderl didn't know what to think about Salazar. "You... You're a Pash, right?" was the first thing the Grounderl asked. Salazar found this to be a good oportunity to tell his story. "Well... yes and no," he started. "I used to be a full-grown Marmera. But my brother, Adrian, poisoned me recently and turned me into a Pash." Salazar looked back at the forest. "That's where I live, the Miggins Pash Colony. It's home to Pash, Opolars, and Marmera alike."
In all his talking, Salazar noticed he wasn't giving the Grounderl much chance to speak. "Say, I don't think I got your name," Salazar said. "What is it?" The Grounderl looked down to Salazar's feet. The Grounderl seemed a bit shy. "I... don't actually have a name," she said. "I'm just a Grounderl. That's what my parents call me." Salazar couldn't help but knock his head sideways a few times. He was not used to a creature not having a name. "But you must have a name," Salazar said. "Surely you do." But the Grounderl shook her head. "Well..." Salazar started. "Maybe I could just give you a nickname. ...Groundy?"
The Grounderl tilted her head to the side. Was it... unsure about the nickname. "No?" Salazar asked. "Sorry, it's just that... well... I've always tried to be a friendly Marmera, but ever since my brother dropped a poison in my drink and turned me into a Pash, no one else in the Miggins Colony will take me seriously. I just wish there was a way to turn back. And I wish there was someone who could help me." Salazar stopped for a moment. "Why am I telling all of you this? I don't even know you very well."
And yet, the Grounderl seemed happy to be around someone like Salazar. "Hmmm... I think I know of a way to cure that type of poison, actually." Salazar's ears perked up. "Really?" he asked as the Grounderl started to climb out of the mole hill. "Then... could you tell me how to find it?" After the Grounderl finished, she put her claws to her chin. "Right... ummm... I forgot." Salazar couldn't help but feel frustrated. "Argh!" he yelled. "I just wish there was a way to turn back. I so desperately want to turn back."
The Grounderl went up to Salazar and put her claw on his back. "Wait. I don't remember specifically, but I know someone who might. We just need to go back to the Burrly colony." Salazar started to cheer up. "Really, there's somone who might know?" Salazar asked. "Great, let's go." Salazar started to climb up the Mole Hill and into the hole. But then, the Grounderl stopped him. "No silly," she said. "We don't live underground, we live in the Baldiu Burrly community." Salazar looked back at the Grounderl then back into the hole. "But... you just came from here." The Grounderl started to giggle. "No, that's just an escape route I take to get away from my parents. Here, let me show you the way." Salazar decided to climb down the hill before taking Grounderl's claw.
"Show me the way," Salazar asked, putting their claws together. The Grounderl smiled and led the way. "Don't worry, it's not that far from here. Let's go." Eventually, Salazar followed the Grounderl back to her colony. Along the way, he asked another question. "Is it alright if I call you Groundy?" he asked. The Grounderl thought for a moment before putting on a friendly smile. "I don't see any harm in it," she responded. And with that, Salazar and "Groundy" were off to the Baldiu Burrly colony. ...But would Salazar find what he's looking for there? Maybe, but maybe not.
