These are my characters, Rachel and Brewster, during the first weeks of their freshman year at high school.
Rachel, an American Quarterhorse mare, has always been unusually tall for her age, and is very self-conscious about it. In order to cope, she has developed a rough, tomboy-ish exterior, but inside she secretly worries if any boys would ever think she is attractive.
Brewster, a cougar, considers himself suave and confident, and likes to get to know as many different girls as he can. On the day he saw Rachel passing him in the hall, he decided to turn on the charm and strike up a conversation.
This is the first time that a boy has ever given any attention like this to Rachel, and she doesn't know what to do. So, she falls back to her ingrained tomboy defenses and brushes him off. Secretly, however, she is scared and thrilled at the same time!
Brewster, however, will not be deterred so easily...

A Mormon dad writing about angsty high school romance? For shame! They are supposed to both be returned missionaries in their sophomore year of college, be far too well adjusted, vote straight Republican, and never really look directly at each other until after the temple wedding. At least that's what all those romance books for Mormons by Mormons make an idyllic relationship out to be.

Haven't really gotten started yet, unfortunately. With a wife that has multiple mental and emotional disorders, four boys, a full time job, and multiple church callings, my comic has taken a back burner. *sigh* I think the big thing that shut it down was when I lost my job back in early 2011, and though I have a steady job now, my art has been really shaky since then.
Brewster doesn't consider himself sleazy at all. He's a perfect gentelfur, well, most of the time. He just likes to keep his eyes open to all of the pretty girls around him, and he's not afraid to reach out and get to know as many as he can. His intentions are nothing perverse at all; he just doesn't want to commit to any single girl.
Would some call him sleazy for that? I suppose. But he doesn't think so.
