I think this photograph and the other one are totally different in terms of what you had captured, and comparing them is like doing the same for apples and oranges. Each photograph has its own style and beauty, and each one has its merits.

I will have to respectfully disagree with you about the dock/pier because it enhances the shot in my view. What I mean is that the dock/pier provides a foreground and a spatial relationship to the shoreline located in the background of your shot. In a way looking at the dock/pier makes me feel like I am about to walk on it ready to touch the water! If anything, the dock/pier enhances the photograph by giving the viewer an idea on the large size of the lake.

I like the texture of the water in this photograph, and the water almost looks like gelatin! Unlike the other photograph in which the water looked like a mirror this one looks like water is semi-solid which is amazing considering that this photograph was probably not taken too long after the other one!

This is a nice photograph, and you have done a smashing job!
