This is just a collection of ideas for Flash Gordonish type hand weapons. One of the things I've had problems in the past with is making truly kitschy, bad B movie type designs. I draw what's suppose to be a campy Ed Wood raygun and someone looks at and says, Looks to competent to be campy, so its back to the drawing board again! Being good at bad is an art form sometimes.

Yeah, I'm thinking of doing some finished pieces with own designs in them instead of just representations of existing designs. I mean I don't mind doing those at all, but when it comes to commissions people always ask for real world stuff instead of experimenting a little.
Existing designs are good to learn and master because the give a indication of time and style, they can also be used as spring boards into the "evolution" of future equivilants. They also can be the base from which to begin an origanel design, changing aspects here and there, because the basic design is made to fit the hand. The only way becoming familiar with existing forms wont help is if you are creating a weapon intended for a differant hand structure.

Top right is an Amana riot pistol. It emits relatively low levels of RF at 53GHz intended to heat the skin of carbon based rioters to 92 degrees C. It only causes permanent damage if used against sensory membranes or eyes.
The next one down is a Waxxon Pule 15c. Weird name for a handly little non-lethal self defense weapon. Makes a BRIGHT flash and a 130 decibel BANG when use, which by themselves can be quite a deterrent. Any one getting within 20 meters to the front out to 12 degrees from center line gets their nerves zapped by an electrostatically charged smoke ring!
