Indeed, that is how Pokemon canonically are. When a Pokemon evolves, they become a totally new Pokemon with totally new behavior. Charlene learned of this fact back in page 6 and has been terrified of evolution ever since, in spite of the fact that she is unbelievably powerful for a charmander as it is.
don't fight it charlene...focus on one aspect of yourself, hold it into your heart and clasp it tight, you will change but it needent be a bad thing...you don't have to become a bully like raticate.. instead of power for powers sake focus on your friends, how much you care for them, how much you want to protect them in this strange new world you've arrived in...let this form the core of your new self.
