gah. if i put the same amount of energy or at least, focus and skill into the shading as i do on my lines, i'd get much better results. it usually stems from my background reading a lot of manga, where the lines were super developed, but the toner control was, in most cases, left to someone else entirely. :K
Oh, I know you're not looking for a (what trolls call) ass-pat... I know you are just self-critiquing, and that's perfectly fine and normal. :3
But honestly, I wish I could put that much detail and value into my shading... I personally feel like my shading is rather flat and lifeless... whereas, your shading shows movement.
Self critique gets to the best of us.

Just take a look through some of my favorites here and on deviantart... It's hard for me to personally accept when someone praises my art when I compare myself to these geniuses.

I really like the shading in all honesty ^ .=.^
I can see how you might not like it (I'm a stickler with my own shading and how it has to be perfect and whatnot) but your shading and your style come together very uniquely especially when you get those little artistic burps.
TL;DR: Doesn't have to be perfect to look great!
