I was going out for another preparatory batch of photos for fall leaves (I'm really excited for those, if you can't tell already by my last several submissions being related to these preparatory shots). I was on a bridge/hill thing over Gourdneck Lake in Portage, MI. It's a great view across the water, because the water is calm and great for reflections, and there's a nature preserve in one area, so there are no houses interrupting the view (it's the entire left side of the image, except for the dock at the very left edge). Really a spectacular view.
Anyways, I had my tripod set up, and I wanted to see how the angle worked out at about 10-15 feet down from the original photo spot. I got to the dock, and the leaf shots didn't work out well, but when I zoomed back out, I saw this and had to take it. This is a WIP image because I want to redo this.

Sadly, this is the full resolution image, I think. I pulled it straight from my SD card. If you want it, send me a note with your email address, and I'll gladly send you the file. Also, I'm going to be uploading it to my DeviantArt account in a few minutes (http://atkinsonian2.deviantart.com/), and I'll put it at full resolution there.
Yeah, that lake is really calm which is clearly what made your shot come out so well. I think the common myth about photography is that one needs fancy cameras with all sorts of gadgets on it to come out with good shots. Your photograph is quite clear, and it actually is nice enough to be framed or to use as a background as a desktop if you ask me.
My opinion, which usually does not mean much, is that there are times when having a shot that is not totally clear is actually better than a clear shot. Storms are a great example because having the slight blur can show the power of the storm as well as the chaos that sometimes happens during a strong storm. I would not fret if your photograph of the storm is not perfect because at least you have made an effort which is more than what most people in this world do.
