Behold, in all that is green, Kelly Green.
Yesterday, just as I was going to head to work, there was a knock at my door. There stood a guy, pointing to a sign by my door (Featuring an iguana, saying "Guarded by Iguana") "You missing an iguana?"
"You found one?" I ask.
"Yeah, just now, we saw your sign and figure it was possibly yours!" He says, he then points to where he has the iguana. I follow him.
Then he says "Cause if its not yours, I got a 10 gallon aquarium and can feed it lettuce, cause thats what they eat."
I wince hearing those words. I look inside the 5 gallon pickle bucket and see this brilliant green juvie.
"There you are you naughty girl! Where have you been?" and reach in and pick up a very chilled and scared lizard. I shake the guys hand and thank him and walk off with the iguana, knowing it stands a far better chance at survival with me.
I get her home, look her over and place her in the Reptile room I have. My Chinese Water dragon instantly needs to investigate the new green lizard, the 5 foot big male I have barely gives this kid a second glance.
Hake gets home and gives the juvie a serious look over, we determined that this is an escaped pet and literally gone feral over the summer. And well fed on whats growing in the area. Plus, had the guy not found her, she likely would have perished by Saturday, cause nighttime tempts are going to a frost warning that night.
We are 95% positive that its female, judging by the pores in the hind legs being tiny, the overall lack of a 'package' in the rear and general overall size of the crest being uniform, along with a small dewlap.
We also named her Kelly, that being a good name should she really wind up being an immature male. Plus she's brilliantly kelly green.
Overall, she's pushing 2 feet with a perfect tail too. We just need to handle her more to calm her down.
