Normally, I don't post photos like this on here. But I'm too happy/excited not to share.
In between working on commissions, I've been hitting the books and the internet to study up...on tortoise care. One of my dream pets has always been a tortoise. Specifically Russian Tortoise. (Though someday I will have my Sulcata. If I ever live somewhere that it'd be easy to keep such a big boy)
There's still some tweaking to do. He'll even have a name badge hanging between his two lamps.
I got Mort today from FedEx, and needless to say...was very anxious at first. I've never bought live animals over the net before...but had studied up on it enough to have enough confidence to try. And I couldn't be happier. Mort came out of his bag wriggling. Wasn't withdrawn into his shell. Completely out, legs just going, looking right at me. Not shy one bit.
His terrarium looks a little messy coz...well...he likes to dig. A LOT! He's currently uprooted his water dish and is sleeping under it, half burried with only his butt and nose visible above the substrate.
He's settling in very well, has a tummy full of big fresh leafy greens, and after a day of marching and digging, is sleeping it off.
Above him on the shelf, you'll see some of my favorite pretties. My current skull collection, my fish, and my ammonite. Will post another pic for a better look.
Btw I built that bookshelf myself! (with help from lil sis) XD

Thank you!
LOL! I almost forgot about that! Should've moved it. XD That container is very old from an abandoned project. I think I'll be using it for some cosplay armor soon if its still useable ;)
And that is a print, as much as I wish I could afford an original. Not the only print of her's that's in my room. Big fan of Christy!

It all goes down to breeder/supplier, really. I've friends that have ordered from this breeder before with no problems, so knew through them as well as many reviews and emails being exchanged. Its not a choice to be made lightly. If you're the least bit uncertain, trust your gut!
Yeah I have been looking up reviews for the site I found, which look good. The only complaints I've read are about snakes not breeding to their color morphs, but I don't plan on breeding so it's not an issue for me. :)
I do plan on calling them and asking about their snakes too, because I definitely don't want to worry about it eating and such.

http://backwaterreptiles.com/ This might also be a good place to take a gander at. They are sort of the "middle man" for breeders within Texas, California, and Florida. My beloved Mort came from Florida.
I have a Russian. <3
He's full grown though and was a rescue so he still is a bit shy but he is out looking around when carried around and will walk around in front of people now. :D
What kind of substrate is he on?
If you notice an excessive amount of your little guy running into the glass put up a barrier along the sides up to his eye level. Turtles and Tortoises usually don't quite understand the concept of glass being a barrier.

Awww cuuute! <3 I eagerly await dandilions for a change. Sweet delicious flowers for my baby! For now, rose blossums from my rose bush <3
He's on coconut fiber substrate, and loves to burrow down in it. Not sure if it can be seen or not in the photos, but he already has a black barrier between him and the glass to keep him from running into things. Even with it, he still "climbs" the sides. LoL.

Coconut is so nice. I had mine in that than decided to try Timmothy Hay but I'm switching back to the coconut.
I couldn't see the barrier in the photo, it's hidden well.
My tortoise lives in a bin with solid blue sides and he tries to climb the sides too sometimes still lol.

LOL no no, its actually fish painted in resin. Layer of paint, layer of resin, layer of paint, ect. Its very very convincing.
And thank you, love my new tortiose buddy. I love blue tongued skinks, such neat little things. If I were to have a lizard though, I'd want a monitor or chameleon.
