This is a close-up of one of the USS Iowa's walkway floor plates.
Why a close-up of *this*, you ask? Well, if you look closely at the spot just below the center of the photo, you'll notice that you can see the deck below through a HOLE in the floor plate!
This hole looks like a product of corrosion (likely from the Iowa's many years of neglect in Suisun Bay), but on the plus side, it looks like it's been scrubbed off and slathered-over with several layers of extra paint.
It won't corrode any further, but I worry that if it isn't repaired, all the tourists ambling over this walkway every day could lead to a structural failure.
It makes you wonder how bad some of the off-limits areas have gotten...
