An animatronic Euoplocephalus in the temporary Dinosaur! exhibit at the Minnesota Zoo.
It's name means a "well-armored head" because of the bony horns on its head
At 20 feet long, eight feet wide and about two tons, this dinosaur was similar in size to a small elephant.
What They Ate: Euoplocephalus was an herbivore (plant eater), thought to consume huge amounts of low lying plant material.
Where Fossils Have Been Found In North America: Montana and Alberta, Canada
What They Did: Not only was this animal’s head well protected, it even had armored eyelids and its body was covered in large spikes. Its weakness was a soft underbelly, leaving scientists to believe that predators would have had to flip Euoplocephalus over to attack.
How They Are Doing: Extinct. Lived in the late Cretaceous Period, 70-65 million years ago.
